(02-23-10) White Sorority Rocks A $100,000 Step Show...and WIN!!! (Peep The Video)

Jay-Z is the focus of a federal investigation into a casino deal in New York. Investigators want to know whether Jay's partnership with A-E-G played a role in his friend Governor David Paterson's awarding the company a contract to run slot machines at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Beyonce has the best celebrity body, according to a poll of two-thousand British women. British men, however, preferred Megan Fox's bod.

Lil' Wayne is due to be sentenced to a year in jail a week from today, but it hasn't stopped him from opening a Twitter account. Using the name "Liltunechi," Weezy first Tweeted on Sunday night, "I'm super-new to this Twitter [thing], but what up though? Follow me bitches -- eight days of freedom." Wayne's reps recently told Rolling Stone magazine they may use Twitter to keep his fans posted while he's away.

According to the New York Times, African-American women may be especially vulnerable to being evicted from their homes.

  • Low-income black women, often single mothers, have an easier time renting apartments but are vulnerable to losing them because their wages or public benefits have not kept up with the cost of housing.
  • For example, women from largely black neighborhoods in Milwaukee constitute 13 percent of the city's population, but 40 percent of those evicted.
  • Matthew Desmond, a sociologist at the University of Wisconsin, says, "Just as incarceration has become typical in the lives of poor black men, eviction has become typical in the lives of poor black women."

CULTURE: Stepping on Toes?

The tradition of stepping has long been associated with historically black colleges and universities. But at last weekend's annual Sprite Step-Off Challenge, a white sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, took the title.

  • 14 sororities and fraternities stepped for a 100-thousand-dollar prize.
  • The ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha received a standing ovation once they were finished, prompting some visibly miffed Deltas to walk out.

Kenny Asks:

  • Is it fair for Zeta Tau Alpha to be scrutinized for winning because they're white? Should stepping be an exclusively black tradition, or should the best steppers win?

No way. Those girls came to do what they prepared for. And that was win and roll, they don't want no trouble. They were the best so pay them and let them get ready for next year. Make me want to see them in person stepping like the old days.

Well, I am somewhat surprised, but what can I do about it--NOTHING!!! I will say this, those "white" girls had rythm and we in step (synch) with one another--I saw one mess up but... Those girls surely have been to a step show or two, so they came prepared to win and win they did.

If you've got it, then hey you've got it!!!! This was a contest. Besides there are a number of whites that have pledged to be in our Black Fraternites and Sororities. I liked it.

The best should win. If you want it to be for HBCU's only then it should have been noted, and a requirement at registration. Everyone that participated know they need to STEP up their game next year. We have always been taught that we have to WORK harder,be SMARTER, and PROVE ourselves as a Black race if we want to be reconized as equals. A hard pill to swallow. But it is what it is.
