In the market for an employed husband? Is that, in fact, literally your number-one life priority at the moment? Well, pack your bags and head for Clarksville, Tennessee, which spills over into Kentucky and apparently boasts the nation's highest concentration of job-having single dudes.
That's according to Time, anyway, digesting some numbers from Pew, who apparently decided to play the role of your most meddling relative and draft a list of where the boys are. "And among never-married women interested in marriage, 78% said that it is "very important" to them that a potential spouse has a steady job (only 46% of never-married men said the same)," they explained. So Clarksville takes the cake, with 140 employed gents for every 100 employed women. If you want a big city, San Jose is your best shot (114: 100). (Disclaimer: This is a terrible way to select a husband.)
If you look beyond that piece of news you can use, however, the stats aren't great:
Nationwide, single young men outnumber their female counterparts. The overall male-to-female ratio is 115:100 among single adults ages 25 to 34. But when we limit the young men to those who are currently employed, the ratio falls to 84 employed single men for every 100 single women.
