FANTASIA CANCELS CHICAGO'S "COLOR PURPLE" SHOW...NOT GOOD!!!
Fans who went to see Fantasia in the Chicago production of The Color Purple over the weekend are none too pleased with the singer, who called in sick -- forcing the show at the Arie Crown Theater to go on without its star both Saturday afternoon and evening. According to theater officials, Fantasia became ill right before the matinee. However fans were not hearing it. Ticketholder Roscoe Mohead told an A-B-C News affiliate, "I think she could have been more professional and tried, at least, to perform." And Charlotte Czarnecki added, "I'm very disappointed. And I just think the theater, Oprah [Winfrey], or somebody should just give us our money back."
Management officials for Fantasia say the singer became ill after eating a turkey sandwich and that she was "equally upset because she's very committed and compassionate about delivering for her fans." Affected ticketholders were allowed to exchange the tickets for Sunday's show, or they'll be able to seek a refund.

DOUG E. FRESH: Scientology's Not Just for White People
What do Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Doug E. Fresh have in common? Apparently the same faith, as the old school hip-hop icon confirms he's been a practicing Scientologist the last eight years. He says he was introduced to it through former girlfriend and Hot 97 radio personality Miss Jones. He tells Essence-dot-com, "I went with her to one of the classes. Miss Jones stopped going but I continued. I found it fascinating. It changed how I thought. I've learned how to look at things and not judge them but respect them and use it in a way that people understand that I respect them, show them love and respect their reality." And while Scientology has been looked at as everything from a cult to a faith that only white people embrace, Doug says, "It is not just for white people... It is scientific, mathematical, and spiritual. The black community has to check it out and see what's there. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but you have to take a look. You may be amazed at what you get."
SHOOTING AT CAFE BELLA...ANGELA PHILLIPS ARRESTED
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Nashville woman is behind bars Monday evening following an early morning shooting outside a downtown night club.
Detectives charged 30-year-old Angela Phillips with attempted criminal homicide for the 2 a.m. shooting outside Café Bella on 9th Avenue South.
Metro police said the victim, 38-year-old Laurette Underwood, was involved in a physical altercation inside the club with Alisha Phillips, Angela Phillips' twin sister.
The parties were escorted outside by club security and further words were exchanged between Angela Phillips and Underwood in the parking lot.
Police said Angela Phillips admitted to retrieving a pistol from her vehicle and firing at Underwood.
Underwood sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and was treated and released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
A club security guard fired in the direction of Phillips' car.
Alisha Phillips, who was in the back seat, received a gunshot wound to the neck.
She was also taken to Vanderbilt where she was listed in stable condition Monday evening.
It has not yet been determined whether the security guard's gunfire wounded Alisha Phillips, police said.
Authorities said the investigation is continuing and additional arrests are possible.
Phillips is being held in the Metro jail on $200,000 bond.
