TOP STORIES:
"Turnout Is Key in Massachusetts Battle "

*NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.—The fight for a Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat, and with it President Barack Obama's domestic agenda, is coming down to one essential challenge: maximizing turnout of core supporters.
Voters thronged to the polls early Tuesday morning. As dawn broke in the frosty Northeast, the GOP publicly relished the possibility that a previously obscure state senator, Scott Brown, could wrest the election from Democratic Attorney General Martha Coakley, considered the fly-away favorite until a week ago.
In contrast to the light turnout for the party primaries last month, the candidates expected heavy a turnout following the national attention thrust upon their race. There was a clear sign at one polling place: A line of cars stretched for nearly a half-mile from the gymnasium at North Andover High School, the polling place for a community of about 30,000 about a half-hour north of Boston. Some drivers turned around in exasperation, the Associated Press reported.

"Haiti earthquake: the struggle to distribute aid"

*The former US President, Bill Clinton, has been in Haiti watching the international aid operation for himself at Port-au-Prince Airport.
As well as being the UN special envoy for Haiti, Mr Clinton, along with another former president, George Bush, has been assigned by President Obama to raise money from the private sector for Haiti.
The BBC's Matt Frei caught up with him amid the roar of the plane engines and asked for his impressions of the situation on the ground.
It appears there are still major problems in the distribution of the aid.

"Security tight in Afghan capital "

*Security has been tightened in the Afghan capital Kabul a day after the city centre was attacked by Taliban gunmen and suicide bombers.
Troops searched vehicles entering the city and increased the number of checkpoints. In addition there were extra foot and vehicle patrols.
Correspondents say that the streets were otherwise calm and traffic was back to normal.
The Kabul assault was the latest in a series of increasingly brazen attacks. The Taliban said 20 of its
fighters had taken part in the attack on Kabul. Afghan authorities said seven attackers were killed.
There had been concern that some of the attackers were still at large.
Two civilians and three security personnel were killed and 71 others wounded in the attack, officials say.

CELEB DISH:
"JAY LENO SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT"

*Jay Leno quit making jokes last night and attempted some damage control on his battered image.
Jay used the opening of his 10 o'clock to give his "view" of the late-night mess. He detailed the events that led to his departure and what looks to be his return to the Tonight Show.
He even complimented Conan O'Brien, saying, "Through all of this, Conan O'Brien has been a gentleman. He's a good guy. I have no animosity towards him."
T-M-Z is reporting that N-B-C and Conan are very close to a deal that would hand the Tonight Show back over to Jay. In the deal, Conan will get 32-point-five million dollars. But he'll have to wait till September to host another show. Also, it looks like N-B-C will retains its intellectual property rights, meaning Conan can't take his creations like "Triumph the Insult Comic Dog" with him.

"TEEN MOM STAR ALLEGEDLY CHOKED BY HER OWN MOTHER"

*An 18-year-old star of the M-T-V reality series Teen Mom was allegedly assaulted by her own mother Saturday.

His girlfriend, Vikki Lizzi, tells T-M-Z that Jeff, who recently appeared on Celebrity Rehab, suffered a broken hip, a broken arm, a fractured neck and a brain hemorrhage.

"Beyonce Signs On With Nintendo!"

*Beyonce is the latest celebrity to promote Style Savvy, the Nintendo shopgirl video game.
The songstress says, "Fashion is something I've been familiar with my whole life," so when Nintendo approached her to star in their ad campaign, she was happy to join the gaming team.
She says the game, "can teach young girls a sense of business and of responsibility. You have to be a good listener and pay attention to what the customers want." We see her point! She kind of lost us, though, when she went on to say, "It also teaches you about fashion, using terms that fashion people use, like 'asymmetrical.'"
Welp, good thing she wasn't a mathematician. We wouldn't classify asymmetry as a fashion-exclusive term.
Still, we get what she's trying to say. "It will be fun," she added, "The clothes in the game are great, so cute and detailed, and there's always something new. It's like playing dress-up, only with digital technology instead of dolls."

RELATIONSHIPS:
"Raising Kids with Your Ex"
-Co-Parenting After a Separation or Divorce-
*If you’ve decided to separate or get a divorce and have kids, your next important decision should be about co-parenting. Divorce may be the end of a marriage, but it is not the end of the family. People who separate but continue to work cooperatively as parents give their children the best chances for a smooth adjustment to living in two separate households and continued growth. Co-parenting is the term used when a divorced couple works together to maintain an amicable relationship and a consistent parenting plan for the sake of their children. Choosing this type of parenting relationship will benefit all involved, diminish some of the challenges of divorce, and encourage positive long term relationships.
-What is co-parenting?
Most divorced couples with children want to remain actively involved in their children’s lives. Co-parenting means sharing parenting responsibilities with an ex-spouse living in a separate household.
-Why is a co-parenting relationship best for your children?
Kids with divorced parents still have the same needs that all children have – to feel secure, loved and protected. Divorce creates a sense of insecurity and instability for kids – the family unit they have grown to rely on, for better or worse, is over. The most important thing you and your ex-spouse can do is show your kids that they will continue to be loved throughout their lives.
Kids whose divorced parents have a cooperative and cordial relationship:
*Feel security and love from seeing their parents continue to work together, and will probably adapt better to the divorce
*Learn from their parents how to solve problems, cooperate and be flexible
*Benefit from consistent rules and two sets of eyes paying attention to them

It's great that former President Clinton is in Haiti overseeing the humanitarian operations. I really hope that this creates some type of accountability. I hope that the pledged resources make it where they are most needed and actually allotted for. If the world can take the miscues of Hurricane Katrina and make certain that they don't happen with the people in Haiti or anywhere else around the world...then maybe those that lost their lives in Katrina won't be in vein. The world is watching...
