Local Buzz:
"Highway Reopens After Tanker Flips Spilling Gasoline"

*NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A crash involving a tanker truck in West Nashville finally cleared up Monday morning. The crash happened Sunday afternoon on Centennial Boulevard near Briley Parkway. The truck was carrying 8,700 gallons of gas, when it crashed and rolled over several times - shutting down the roadway. Fire crews used foam to make it safe enough for hazmat workers to drill into the side of the tanker and pump the remaining gasoline onto other trucks.
About 15 gallons of fuel leaked out of the overturned truck.
The ramp was opened back up around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

"Guns In Bars and Restaurants Supporters Still Pushing Bill"

*NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Supporters of the guns in bars and restaurants legislation vowed to get it passed in 2010, but House Speaker Kent Williams urged caution.
The law was struck down in November by a Nashville judge. The judge found the law was too vague to enforce. Now Williams wants the legislatures to let the issue work its way through the courts before trying to approve the law again. That law allowed gun permit holders to carry their guns in bars and restaurants where alcohol was sold.

"Nashville Honors 1960 Sit-Ins On MLK Day"

*NASHVILLE, Tenn. - One of the largest marches in the country honoring Martin Luther King Jr. will take place Monday in North Nashville. The march will also honor the 50th anniversary of the Nashville sit-ins. Since most who participated in the 1960 sit-ins were students, 15 midstate colleges and universities have been invited to attend. Some of the original sit-ins will be honored at the convocation ceremony at Tennessee State University. The march will begin at the Jefferson Street Baptist Church near 28th Avenue and Jefferson Street, and it will lead to TSU's Gentry Center for a convocation ceremony.

"Rescues Beat Dimming Odds in Haiti "

*PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti” Despite dimming odds, rescue workers pulled more people alive from the rubble” including a 7-year-old girl who survived more than four days eating dried fruit rolls in the supermarket that collapsed around her” as water and emergency aid deliveries improved on Sunday, though not nearly enough to meet Haiti's desperate need. On Sunday, the mood managed to stay mostly calm, as residents carried leather-bound Bibles to pray outside their ruined churches. But there were reports of more looting and shootings, including of four men who witnesses said were shot by the police on suspicion of looting. There were fewer bodies in the streets, though in some places residents began burning corpses left behind. Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations secretary general, arrived to offer a promise of improvement from his organization, which was itself badly hit by the quake but was still heavily criticized for the slow pace of the emergency response.
"I am here with a message of hope that help is on the way, Mr. Ban told a crowd of Haitians in front of the severely damaged National Palace. On the fifth day after the earthquake, there were signs of improvement, possibly even hope that the worst was passing. Traffic at the airport continued to increase, and there were 27 rescue teams on the ground, with 1,500 people searching for survivors.
But the World Food Program said: "Aftershocks persist which is a concern given the damaged infrastructure. The best news came in the form of a small voice from deep in a pile of rubble at the Caribbean Supermarket in the Delmas neighborhood, heard overnight late Saturday or early Sunday. As the odds of finding more survivors fell steeply, American and Turkish rescue workers were stunned to discover a small Haitian girl, who proudly told them that she made it through with hope and leathery fruit snacks.
She was the first of five people to be pulled from the wreckage during a search spanning the weekend, some of whom sent desperate text messages to let loved ones know they were trapped. She was deeply shaken, having been trapped for days in a small space in a devastated market, with death in every aisle. But she had not been pinned down by debris and was not hurt, according to Capt. Joseph Zahralban of the South Florida search and rescue team.
"If you have to be trapped in a collapsed building, a stocked supermarket is probably the best place to be, Captain Zahralban said. Among the rescuers at the store were members of a joint New York police and fire rescue team, who had arrived in Haiti on Saturday, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly of New York said Sunday in a telephone interview. He said the team included 80 people and several rescue dogs. There were several other reported rescues around the city, including a 2-month-old baby, CNN reported, and Jens Kristensen, a Danish civilian employee of the United Nations peacekeeping forces at the Christopher Hotel, the organization’s headquarters here, where perhaps 100 of its workers remained buried. At the airport, American military officials said that waiting times for landing had declined, while traffic had increased. Each day, there are 100 slots for incoming planes” well exceeding the 30 to 35 flights that the airport handled before the earthquake. But in a sign of both Haiti's needs and the response, even that is not close to handling the number of planes waiting to come in. "There is certainly more demand than 100 a day, said Maj. Matthew Jones of the Air Force, operations officer of the joint task force running the airport. "However, no one has been denied a slot, but there may be a delay. Sometimes if it's not today, it's tomorrow.
The military has established a priority list for providing slots, Major Jones said. At the top are planes bringing in water. Next is equipment for distributing supplies, followed by food and then medical personnel and medicine. In Port-au-Prince, the stepped-up effort appeared to be paying off and aid was finally reaching at least some of Haiti's desperate, with varying degrees of order.
On Sunday morning, a United Nations truck appeared in the park near the presidential palace, where hundreds of families have been squatting since the earthquake. They handed out bags of water to a crowd mostly appreciative, with only a little shoving. The World Food Program also sent at least three convoys to different locations badly affected by the earthquake, with a goal of delivering enough nourishment to last 65,000 people five days.

"MLK Day: A 'touchstone' for Haiti support over the long-term"
*Often, the best way to honor a lost hero's memory is to carry that individual's work forward, building on their dream and hope for a better future. Such is the case with Martin Luther King, Jr., a man whose life continues to inspire worldwide peace, compassion, and understanding.
On this "King Day of Service", many will be using their day off to help others, especially those affected by last week's devastating earthquake in Haiti. In fact, Michelle Nunn, Executive Director for the Points of Light Institute (which is holding a virtual MLK Day Town Hall meeting at 8:30 a.m. ET today that all are welcome to join), hopes that Americans will be inspired by this national day of service to commit to helping Haiti for the long-term:
"We need people to use the MLK Holiday as a touchstone to think about how they can help support Haiti over the long-term," says Nunn. "We all need to find ways of sustaining the initial humanitarian impulse and channeling it into commitments that will span months and years."
Nunn suggests a phased approach to the relief efforts:
The support "needed in this first phase is donations -- money funneled to experienced relief organizations providing on-the-ground help," says Nunn. "On MLK Day, people can also make donation to the American Red Cross or make a commitment to continue to support Haiti through the relief phase and into the recovery and rebuilding period." "GOP hopeful riding voter anger in Kennedy seat bid "

*BOSTON -- Republican Scott Brown is surfing a wave of voter frustration with President Barack Obama that has helped propel the once low-profile Massachusetts state senator from long shot to contender in the race to fill the Senate seat left vacant by Edward Kennedy's death.
Brown's meteoric rise caught nearly everyone off-guard, particularly Democratic Party leaders who assumed their candidate, state Attorney General Martha Coakley, would have a cakewalk to the U.S. Capitol after winning a four-way primary in November. They hadn't counted on voters like Luis Rodriguez. The 46-year-old plastics factory supervisor, who emigrated to the U.S. in 1988 from Uruguay and became a citizen last year, said he's fed up with what he calls the lies told by Washington. It's enough for him that Coakley supports Obama, who Rodriguez says has failed to make good on his pledge for openness. "We don't buy what we can't afford. We don't spend what we don't have," said Rodriguez, echoing the anger expressed by other voters who say Democrats are too eager to bail out bankers and people who bought homes they couldn't afford. "These people, what they're doing now, they're spending money they don't have so they can get elected again."

Celeb News:
"CONAN, NBC CLOSE TO DEAL"

*Conan O'Brien and N-B-C are said to be close to a deal that would free the host from the network and give Jay Leno back the Tonight Show. In the deal, Conan will get 30-million dollars to leave the Tonight Show, but there's a hitch -- he can't say anything bad about N-B-C once he's gone. He would also have to wait a certain period before he can take another hosting gig, though that can be as soon as this fall.

"TIGER IN MISSISSIPPI?"

*The latest "Where in the world is Tiger Woods" rumor has the disgraced golfer in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Two local T-V stations report that Tiger is undergoing rehab for sexual addiction at the Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services clinic.
Other rumors have Tiger in sex rehab in Arizona and at the estate of a friend in South Africa.
"TIGER NOT DONATING 3-MIL TO HAITI?"

*Russell Simmons says he prematurely tweeted that Tiger Woods was donating three-million bucks to Haiti relief efforts. Tiger's people say they're still looking into how the golfer can help out. Simmons tells T-M-Z, "[Thursday] I tweeted that Tiger Woods was contributing in a major way. My source for the tweet was premature, however, I strongly and passionately urge everyone with reach and means to act NOW as speed is everything to saving the lives of people in desperate need."

"CELEBS HELPING HAITI"

*A couple of other celebs have forked over major donations to help Haiti. Sandra Bullock has contributed a million dollars to help earthquake victims. The money has gone to Doctors Without Borders. Gisele Bundchen donated one-point-five-million dollars to the Red Cross.

*Meanwhile, former first daughter Chelsea Clinton is doing her part to raise money for Haiti -- by spinning. Chelsea will co-host a special 90-minute spin class in New York City on Thursday, with 100-percent of the proceeds going to the relief effort.

Black History:
"LEGACY: Martin Luther King Day"

*On Monday, most companies and federal and state agencies will observe Martin Luther King Day, to commemorate the slain civil rights leader born on January 15th.
Since 1986, M-L-K Day has been observed every third Monday of the month of January.
President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed in 1986. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000. In the spirit of what Dr. King stood for, Americans are urged to take the holiday as a "day of service."
Questions??:
Does your company observe Martin Luther King Day?
Do you think this holiday is genuinely recognized as a national holiday? Does your company or job give you paid time off for it?
What service will you perform on this day?

Relationship:
"5 Signs You're Trying Too Hard To Find Love"
*So you're single and hating it and you spend every waking moment trying to find Mr. or Ms. Right. Well, the reason you haven't been successful could be that you're trying too hard!
How can you tell when it's time to slow down your desperate, relentless pursuit of love? MSN.com contributor Bob Strauss -- author of The Big Book of What, How and Why -- offers up these surefire signs that you need to stop stressing and chill out:
1. You agree with everything your date says (even if you don't really agree). John Seeley, author of Get Unstuck: The Simple Guide to Restart Your Life, says "If you say or agree with things only to make another person happy, that person will eventually realize that a 'yes' man or woman isn't needed." 2. You write to people online who you're not really interested in. Sometimes it's hard not to go into dating overdrive, and you find yourself going through the motions -- browsing online profiles, writing to people who aren't really right for you, and then being disappointed.
If you sense you're overdoing it, it can't hurt to take a break for a week or two and focus on other aspects of your life for a change. You'll come back to the craziness of online dating refreshed, with some new life experiences to write about in your profile.
3. You get a dog (when you're really a cat person). While walking a dog around town can be a great way to meet people, Seeley warns, "You should have a pet because you love animals ... not specifically to meet someone ... that's like saying that you, by yourself, aren't enough."
4. You contact long-lost flames who have long since moved on. It's only in Lifetime TV movies and rare real-life instances that a 30-something bachelor contacts his high-school sweetheart out of the blue and -- bang!-- they're married a month later.
Usually, there's a good reason that person you dated years ago drifted away and you lost touch. While you may justify e-mailing him or her with the thought, "Well, at least I'm trying," you're likely to get the same result. That's IF your former flame isn't married or engaged.
5. You take a class in something you're already an expert in. If you're into classical music, there's nothing wrong with checking out a lecture series on Mozart, no matter how much you know about the guy. But it's another thing to enroll in a "Cooking for Beginners" class when you're a gourmet chef! "Sometimes people want to show they're good at something," Seeley says, "but ... if you have to disguise who you are in order to meet someone, it violates ... trust."

A health note:
"What is insomnia?"

*Insomnia is a common sleep problem that can affect your quality of life. People with insomnia have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. They may wake up during the night or wake up too early the next morning. Insomnia may be caused by:
-Stress. Stress can be caused by fear about a single event, such as giving a speech. Or you may have ongoing stress, such as worry about work or school. -Depression, anxiety, and other mental or emotional conditions. -Poor sleep habits, such as watching TV in bed or not having a regular bedtime schedule. If you have trouble sleeping, you may worry about being able to fall asleep. This can make the problem worse. -Changes in your sleep habits or surroundings. This includes changes that happen where you sleep, such as noise, light, or sleeping in a different bed. It also includes changes in your sleep pattern, such as having jet lag or working a late shift.
-Other health problems, such as pain, breathing problems, and restless legs syndrome.
-Stimulants, such as tobacco and caffeine, as well as certain medicines, alcohol, and drugs.
-Lack of regular exercise.1
It may help to:
-Go to bed at the same time each night.
-Get up at the same time each day.
-Avoid caffeine and alcohol for several hours before bedtime.
-Get regular exercise (but make sure you finish the exercise at least 3 to 4 hours before you go to bed).
-Avoid daytime naps.
