*NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police have been trying to figure out who killed a man and left him in car on an interstate ramp late Thursday night.
Police responded to the Dickerson Road exit on Interstate 65 North just after 10 p.m. and found a man who'd been shot to death inside a truck.
Police said they don't believe the man was shot on the interstate, but it's not clear where he was shot or how he got to that location.

*UNDATED - About 22,000 notebook computers have been recalled because of a potential burn hazard.
Acer and the Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled its Aspire-series notebook computers, because a short circuit can cause the external casing to melt.
No injuries have been reported.
To return one of the notebooks contact the manufacturer at (866) 695-2237.

"Icy Conditions Close Roads And Hinder Emergency Crews"

*UNDATED - Thursday's snow and Friday's arctic air left secondary roads in Middle Tennessee slick and dangerous.
Friday morning, police closed Bell Road over Percy Priest Dam due to hazardous conditions.
In Wilson County, the sheriff's department said they would only respond to life-threatening calls because side roads were too dangerous.
All non-emergency reports, like break-ins or vandalism, will be taken over the phone.
The winter weather has also been blamed for one death on Kentucky roads. Police said a man in the central part of the state was killed when he lost control of his pick-up and slammed into a tree.
In Alabama, cars were seen spinning, sliding and crashing into each other. In the Huntsville area drivers were dealing with black ice on the highways.
For those who have to head out Friday morning, check on the latest road conditions before leaving the house.
In Tennessee call 511 or 1-800-342-3258, and for road conditions in Kentucky call 1-866-RD-REPORT.

"Body found near West Wendover is a Latino male"

*The body found in Elko County, Nev., on Thursday is that of a Latino male, said Elko County Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Doug Gailey.
The body was discovered in the Pilot Valley area west of West Wendover, Nev., about noon, and about 4:30 p.m. police determined the body was that of a man, and not 28-year-old Susan Powell, who has been missing for a month from West Valley City.
"Definitely not. It's a male with a moustache," Gailey said.
The 5-foot-4-to-5-foot-6 inch-tall body is wrapped in plastic and duct tape, Gailey said. It does not match any missing persons reports in the Elko County area, and now deputies will look to other agencies for missing-person reports that may match the body.
The Pilot Valley is between West Wendover and Montello

"Former Bush lawyer charged with attempted murder"

*BOSTON (Reuters) - A former top attorney for President George W. Bush was charged in Connecticut on Thursday with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his wife with a long flashlight.
John Michael Farren, 57, of New Canaan, was arrested after police received a panic alarm from his home shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, local media reported.
Mary Farren, 43, a partner at the law firm Skadden, Arps, suffered a broken jaw, facial fractures and lacerations to the back of her head from the attack.
She had delivered divorce papers earlier this week, according to the arrest affidavit.
Farren was named a deputy assistant to the president and deputy counsel to the president in 2007, according to his White House biography. He served as an undersecretary at the Commerce Department during the George H. W. Bush administration.
Mary Farren's attorney Andrew Bowman described the attack as "brutal."
"She is terrified of him, and we ask that as many restrictions be placed upon him as possible," he told the local Greenwich Time newspaper.
Farren was ordered held on a $2 million bond and scheduled to appear on January 21 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

"Charred Body of Playboy Model Paula Sladewski Found in Miami Dumpster "

*The boyfriend of a Playboy model whose body was found smoldering in a burning Miami dumpster on New Year's Eve has been named a person of interest in her murder, police said. Paula Sladewski, 26, who appeared in Playboy magazine and the 2003 movie, "Playboy: The Ultimate Playmate Search," was in Miami for a weekend of partying and celebration with her live-in boyfriend, Kevin Klym, police told ABC News.
Klym and Sladewski lived together in Michigan and California.
The relationship between the couple was "loving and volatile," Klym's lawyer, Marc Beginin, told ABC News. He added that his client is "totally devastated over this situation."

"NJ Senate defeats gay marriage bill "

*The New Jersey state Senate on Thursday voted down a bill to legalize gay marriage, ending a major legislative battle but setting off anew a court fight.
Minutes after the bill was defeated 20-14, gay rights advocates announced they would file a lawsuit seeking to get the state's top court to order New Jersey to recognize same-sex matrimony.
The state Supreme Court ruled in 2006 that the state must provide all the benefits of marriage to committed gay couples. In response, the Legislature legalized civil unions for gay couples.
The Senate vote also was the latest setback for gay rights supporters nationally. In November, Maine voters overturned a law that would have allowed gay marriage in that state. The law never went into effect. And last month, the state Senate in New York defeated a similar law. In California, a federal trial will begin next week on that state's gay marriage ban.
Only five states — Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont — recognize gay marriage.
Gay rights advocates had pushed hard to get the New Jersey measure passed before Jan. 19, when Republican Chris Christie becomes governor. Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine had promised to sign the bill if approved by the Legislature but Christie said he would veto it.
On Tuesday, Sen. President Richard Codey agreed to put the bill to a vote, leaving little mystery about its fate. Only one Republican, Sen. Bill Baroni of Hamilton, was among the 14 senators who voted for the bill. The measure needed 21 votes to pass.
"We should not be telling one couple you can be married and another couple you can be civil unionized," Baroni said. "We are better than that. History is watching us now. She is asking us whether we'll side with equality and right — or for discrimination."
Those on the other side said changing the centuries-old definition of marriage was too drastic a move for lawmakers to make. Opponents want to put the measure to a popular vote.
"Suddenly, today, there's implications that you're discriminating against folks when you want to maintain that definition," said Sen. Michael Doherty, a Republican from Washington Township in Warren County.

Celeb News:
"TIGER WOODS PUTTING FOR THE OTHER TEAM?"

*The news just keeps getting worse for Tiger Woods.
One of his many alleged mistresses, Loredana Jolie Ferriolo, says she's writing a tell-all. Her most shocking claim -- she saw the pro golfer have sexual relations with other men. Loredana says she'll dish about how she and Tiger "came about, his healthy appetite for arranged sex, threesomes, girls next door, girl-girl, and an answer to all the rumors surrounding Woods' sexuality." She's reportedly looking to sell the dirt for a million dollars.

"ARTIE LANGE WAS HOSPITALIZED AFTER APPARENT SUICIDE"

*Artie Lange reportedly landed in the hospital after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt.
Lange's mother found him unconscious and bleeding on the floor in his Hoboken, New Jersey apartment Saturday morning. Police say he made nine "self-inflicted stab wounds" with a 13-inch kitchen knife. Lange, who's had a history of drug addiction, underwent successful surgery despite severe bleeding.

"COLEMAN OUT OF THE HOSPITAL, PENIS IN MOVIE"

*Gary Coleman was released from an L-A hospital Wednesday night after suffering an apparent seizure.
His agent, Robert Malcolm, says the Diff'rent Strokes star is doing well after a scheduled dialysis and a round of tests. But Gary's other problem -- getting a shot of his penis removed from the movie Midgets Vs. Mascots -- isn't going as well. Producers of the "shockumetary" say the penis stays in the film. In a statement, they say, "We met with Gary this morning and he is aware of our decision."

"LINDSAY LOHAN ACCUSED OF COPYING OTHER DESIGNERS"
Lindsay Lohan's drama-free 2010 didn't last a week.

*Linds, who recently announced plans to expand her leggings line, is being accused of ripping off the work of two designers. One of the designers, Jen Kao, tells Women's Wear Daily, "It's a shame to support the concept of taking advantage of designers who are still trying to develop a name and solidify the image of their design aesthetic."

Black History:
"African National Congress founded"

*African National Congress founded-January 8, 1912~The African National Congress (ANC) has been South Africa's governing party, supported by its tripartite alliance with the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party (SACP), since the establishment of non-racial democracy in April 1994. It defines itself as a "disciplined force of the left".[2] Members founded the organization as the South African Native National Congress (SANNC) on 8 January 1912 in Bloemfontein to increase the rights of the black South African population. John Dube, its first president, and poet and author Sol Plaatje are among its founding members. The organization became the ANC in 1923 and formed a military wing, the Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation) in 1961.
It has been the ruling party of post-apartheid South Africa on the national level since 1994. It gained support in the 1999 elections, and further increased its majority in 2004, with 69.7% of the votes. In 2009 its share of the vote reduced slightly, but it remained the dominant party with 65.9% of the votes.

Healthy Matters:
"Anti-Alzheimer's 'Cocktail' Meets With Disdain"

*A new study touting the benefits of a nutrient cocktail in preventing Alzheimer's disease is drawing fire from experts who say the results are being misrepresented. The drink, known as Souvenaid, was developed by the French company Danone, known as Dannon in the U.S., and was based on research done at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is not currently on the market.
To conduct the study, researchers in the Netherlands gave Souvenaid, which includes B vitamins, phospholipids and antioxidants, to 225 patients with Alzheimer's disease. After 12 weeks, the cocktail appeared to show a slight benefit to patients who had taken it versus those in a placebo group.
The researchers said that the "proof-of-concept study justifies further clinical trials." Indeed, several such studies are currently under way.
However, numbers in the study indicated a reasonably high probability that some of the results could be due to chance, and some of the drink's apparent benefits seemed to disappear quickly, critics say.
"I see little evidence to support the use of this beverage to improve memory in [Alzheimer's disease patients]," said Dr. Paul Aisen, a noted Alzheimer's disease expert and professor at the University of California, San Diego. "It was a small study of treatment-naïve [Alzheimer's] patients lasting only 12 weeks." By 24 weeks, the memory differences seen after 12 weeks had disappeared.

Good News:
"Chilean zoo celebrates birth of 5 white tigers"

*SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - The Chilean National Zoo is celebrating the birth of a rare litter of five white tigers.
Zoo director Mauricio Fabry said Thursday that the zoo will build a special habitat to accommodate the tigers born on Dec. 28.
He said that the new enclosure will include a large expanse of grass and waterfalls and will be without bars.
On Wednesday, zoo officials implanted subcutaneous chips in the cubs to identify them.
The tigers' father is Pampa, who arrived from Argentina in 2007. The mother is Luna, who arrived at the zoo from Mexico in 2004.
The couple produced a litter of three white tigers in December 2007, but the zoo hasn't seen a litter of five in 82 years.
The tigers' white fur is the result of a rare gene mutation.
Fabry says there are only 200 such tigers on the planet.

The tiger cubs are too cute..

as for the other Tiger... it has been said that a man with everything to offer should never engage with people that have everything to gain. At this point whether the stories about his sexuality are true or not become irrelevant. Now it's all about sensationalism and entertainment.

Gary Coleman...why would you do a naked scene to begin with?

I don't really like shopping with my girlfriend either, but I know it's a part of the relationship. So I prepare myself before we go out. I make sure I've taken a nap, had a good lunch, and my ipod is fully loaded with music, movies, and episodes of Entourage and 24. That way if I have to sit in Charlotte Ruse for an hour I'm occupied with my ipod.

Good to learn about the ANC developing. I watched "Invictus" with Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela. Decent movie...kind of slow, but ok overall. Looking forward to Jennifer Hudson playing Winnie Mandela.

Who is Artie Lang?

That model didn't deserve to be murdered and set afire. She was such a pretty girl. I hope they catch the person that did it.

Nashville (and Memphis) gets snow flurries and the entire city shuts down! Gotta love the south.
