LAFAYETTE, Tenn. -- A family is mourning
the loss of a young athlete after an apparent mishap with a loaded gun.
Brandon Lee Tidwell, 15, was shot in his home on Galen
Road in Lafayette around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
According to Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons, a family
member, 17, was running through a narrow hallway in the home and caused a loaded
gun to fall from a mounted gun rack. The gun fired, hitting Tidwell. He died
from his injuries.
Tidwell was to begin his sophomore year at Red Boiling
Springs High School this fall.
He was a star athlete on the school's football
team.
Sheriff Gammons said Tidwell's death will be felt my many
in the community.
"Small town and everybody knows everybody. [I was]
speaking with his football coach today. He was talking about [Tidwell] was going
to be the best lineman, starting on the offensive and defensive side of the
ball," Gammons said. "It effects the football team, the children, the family,
mother and father."
The initial investigation indicates the shooting was
accidental. No charges have been filed.
