Racist Obama Email from TN Lawmakers Office (Newschannel 5 Story)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Democratic legislators are expressing outrage over a racist e-mail about President Barack Obama that was sent by a state employee who works for a Republican lawmaker.

The e-mail from Sherri Goforth, a legislative aide for Sen. Diane Black, was sent last month to other staff for Republican senators.

"I was shocked and I was disappointed," said Black. "It absolutely does not reflect my beliefs or my opinion and I will not tolerate this kind of communication from my office."

The e-mail showed a portrait or photo of each U.S. president except Obama, who is depicted only as wide eyes in a black background.

"It sort of undermines what we're trying to do and gives strength to many of the stereotypes that are perceived about us here in the south," said Rep. John Deberry Jr.

Democratic Rep. Joanne Favors thought the e-mail had done serious damage to Tennessee's image.

"I feel that she really should be terminated," said Favors. "Our governor is in Switzerland now, as I understand and for something like this to be published, that places a blight on the entire state."

In published reports Goforth is quoted as saying she mistakenly sent the e-mail to the wrong group of addresses when she hit the wrong button.

Black's office said on Monday that Goforth had left for the day, but Black said she did not know about the e-mail until a legislative staffer informed her. Goforth still has a job after a warning from Senator Black.

"Both verbally and also through writing with a letter that went into her file, that if these kind of communications occurred again, she would lose her job," said Black.

Senator Black consulted human resources about Goforth's reprimand and did not expect to take any further action.

This is why racism still exist today. What they see as "funny," we see it as disrespect and degrading.

They will never understand the hurt and pain we feel when it comes to racism because they have NEVER been in our shoes. They won't start to understand until they are enslaved and told when, why and how to do everything. Until they have never been whipped like livestock; until their women haven't been raped repeatedly just because their owner decided he want to; the haven't been stripped of their diginity in front of everyone and put of display for public auction. Until they go through the things we as a people have been through...they will never understand why it hurts us to the core when we see these type of issues.

They seem to forget that our President, Barack Obama was the child of a white woman. So to refer to him as a "darkie," they are ignoring that one fact and saying he is just like the rest of us. They truly do only SEE COLOR!!!!

It doesn't matter if she sent it to the wrong group of people she should have not sent it out.....

It just goes to show that there are a lot of ignorant folks in this world. If they were not going to fire her, she should have been suspended without pay. Even though she sent it to the wrong group of people, we can only imagine how much she had been sending out to the "intended" party about President Obama. People need to understand that President Obama is in office for four years and all the negativity and hate crimes, etc. needs to stop. It will not change anything.
