An investment partnership has paid $1.5 million for the location of Paul's Market and adjacent properties at the corner of Jefferson Street and D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard.
Aziz Albarati said he and his cousin Yasir Khanshali plan to continue operating the gas station and convenience market at 1800 Jefferson St. with future redevelopment plans.
Last year, developer D.J. Wootson had a contract to buy the 0.66-acre site, which also includes a former car detailing shop location at 1806 Jefferson, with plans for a mixed-use project. "It just wasn't the right site for what I wanted to do," Wootson said.
Buying entity Albarati & Khanshali LLP bought the North Nashville property from an entity that include Paul's Market longtime operator John N. Kawinzi.
The 2,550 square-foot convenience store and gas station sits on a 0.41-acre site across from the Otey Center shopping center, while the 850 square-foot former car wash building is on a 0.15-acre parcel at 1806 Jefferson. There's also another 0.10-acre parcel at 1808 Jefferson with a 1,065 square-foot building on it.
Albarati, who moved to Nashville from Oregon, owns properties on Dickerson and Gallatin Pike including the location of Latino market. Khanshali lives in California, but owns properties here including gas stations.
Albarati said he plans renovations, including new paint for Paul's Market. A new food market and gas station brand is among future development possibilities, he added.
