NSA: Obama Signs Bill Limiting Surveillance Program

The NSA's collection of massive amounts of phone data is officially over. On Tuesday, President Obama signed into law legislation passed by Congress to reform the collection of phone data.

The move comes after the NSA's phone-record program expired without being renewed. The new law, called the USA Freedom Act, was approved by the Senate by a 67-32 vote with Democrats and conservative Republicans forming a unlikely alliance. Pleased by the vote, Obama tweeted from @POTUS account, "I'll sign it as soon as I get it."

Under the new law, phone companies are required to collect and store phone data as they do now for billing purposes. Yet, instead of routinely passing such data on to the NSA, they are now only required to turn it over by government request approved by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. (Reuters)

Say What:

The NSA can still get phone records, they just have to jump through some hoops.

Some people are willing to give up privacy for safety.

Others would rather die than give up their privacy.
