Chicago Bears defensive end Ray McDonald was arrested yesterday on domestic violence charges and the team wasted no time in getting rid of him.
The 30-year-old former San Francisco 49er, who has a history of alleged domestic violence, was arrested in San Jose, California after he allegedly attacked a woman while she was holding a baby. The Bears, who signed McDonald in March on the condition that he would stay out of trouble, heard about the arrest and immediately released him. Bears general manager Ryan Pace said in a statement, "We believe in second chances, but when we signed Ray we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a Bear. He was not able to meet the standard and the decision was made to release him." (Sports Illustrated)
Say What:
This guy was lucky enough to get a second chance and he blew it.
Did the Bears do the right thing by releasing him before an investigation?
Shouldn't the team have waited to learn all of the details before releasing him? This is his livelihood and they don't know the whole story.
Yo, apparently being in the NFL and being named Ray is a bad combination. (Rae Carruth, Ray Rice, Ray Lewis, or Ray McDonald) IJS
