Despite reports that Kanye West's laptop was stolen, Def Jam reps say don't believe the hype.
Early Wednesday morning, Ye's G.O.O.D. Music labelmate, Malik Yusef tweeted, "We have the private investigation firms on top of @kanyewest stolen laptop." Later, "Awesome," a two-year-old Kanye song written as a tribute to Kim K hit the net, with a Twitter account called @kanyelaptop taking credit for the leak.
The account would continue to taunt Yeezy throughout the day, tweeting out cryptic information and threatening to leak another record if the account hit 100,000 followers. While the account was probably just trolling, they did post a snippet of a record called "YZ 2.0."
Despite the Internet detectives on the case, Ye's rep denies everything: “The stories circulating that Kanye West’s laptop has been stolen are completely false. His laptop has never been out of his possession.” (NYT)
Quickies:
The album could come out any day now, but it'd be a shame for it to happen as a leak.
Imagine all the other potential treasure that could be on Ye's laptop: unreleased music, fashion designs, Kim K. pics.
Was the leak really a coincidence or is this damage control by Def Jam PR?
