In its opening weekend, dystopian teen flick The Hunger Gamesshattered box office records, won over fansand critics alike, and pissed off some Twitter users by casting black actors in several key roles.
We wish we were kidding with that last point. We're not.
The film's casting of Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Katniss's (Jennifer Lawrence) stylist turned friend; Dayo Okeniy as Thresh, her fellow tribute; and especially Amandla Stenbergi as Rue, the young tribute she befriends, has apparently pissed some people off.
While any outrage over these characters being black is obviously ridiculous, it's even more absurd and offensive when you know that Rue and Thresh are explicitly described as dark skinned in the book series (Cinna's race is not mentioned). The movie didn't even change anything.
