The inventively-named Hogan's Beach has a dress code more restrictive than most fine dining establishments according to TMZ.
It starts off simply enough:
*****ATTENTION ALL CUSTOMERS*****
DRESS CODE
WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED
NO EXCEPTIONS: Shirts and Shoes are required upon entering any indoor area of the restaurant or hotel. Please do not enter the dining room or hotel area without appropriate clothing and footwear or you will be asked to leave the premises.
The following dress code shall be strictly enforced:
NO Plain White T-Shirts (or otherwise oversized t-shirts extending past the mid-thigh)
NO Attire Containing Profanity (or otherwise deemed to be offensive by management)
NO Sports or Sleeveless Jerseys
NO Excessively Baggy Attire
NO Low hanging pants or shorts (pants or shorts must be worn at the waist)
NO hats, caps or visors worn sideways or back facing (hats must be worn fully forward facing at all times)
NO Do-Rags, Skullcaps or Bandanas
NO Torn or Soiled Clothing
NO Workboots.
NO oversized or excessive jewelry
NO High-Top Sneakers
NO Camouflage (unless with military ID)
Hogan claims he didn't know anything about the dress code*** and told TMZ that he's "looking into it."
Update: Apparently, Hogan took care of this pretty quickly, threatening to revoke their right to use his name unless they got rid of the dress code.
The original dress code Hogan's Beach is not that much different from some venues/restaurants in the Nashville Area. Bar Louie has been called for their dress code that seems to target only a certain population. Owners of venues say that controlling the way people dress can control the type of person that will enter the establishment and control how people act in their establishment. On the Agenda Nashville website it is stated that the dress code “is used to create a FUN, SEXY, AND CHIC experience while, most importantly, providing a SAFE environment for all patrons, employees, and surrounding businesses.” Agenda is a predominately urban club.
So, is the dress code racist and targeting a certain group? Or is the dress code protecting the patrons and creating a safe environment? What dress code do you believe is out of line and which ones do you believe are very necessary?
