GETO BOYS: Launch Kickstarter to Fund Reunion Album

Your mind’s not playing tricks on you — a reunion album could be in the cards for the legendary trio The Geto Boys, if fans are ready to pony up the dough to make it happen.

After they hit the road together for the first time in years, talk turned to new musical endeavors: specifically a reunion album called Habeas Corpus to be funded by Kickstarter donations. Habeas Corpus will feature tracks produced by long-time collaborators Mike Dean, Tone Capone, N.O. Joe, as well as tracks by as-yet-unnamed new blood. Scarface and Willie D will also be producing some songs themselves, with Ice Cube slated to make a guest appearance.

Fans who pony up to support the new project will be rewarded with exclusive perks, including fan club membership ($5), limited edition CD and photo book ($25), access to the New York City listening party ($55), a round of golf with Scarface ($3000) and a custom-made casket for $10,000. They’re hoping to raise $100,000 by July 15th.

    They’re willing to put their differences aside if they can get enough cash to make it worth their while.

    Reunion tours and albums are almost always cash grabs playing on fans nostalgia for an artist’s glory days.

    A coffin seems very appropriate for the group that pioneered horror-core.

    They should preserve their legacy and only work together if they really have something to say -- not just for one last payday.

    The Geto Boys are one of the most underrated acts in hip-hop, this is the least we can do.

    We're not gonna be seeing record donations like De La Soul's Kickstarter on this one.
