A Nashville leader and civil rights champion will be laid to rest today.

Funeral services will be held for Francis Guess at 12:30 p.m. in the Davidson Room of the Music City Center. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. in the lobby outside the room.

Guess died at his home last week at the age of 69. His exact cause of death was not immediately released.

Throughout his career, he worked in then Governor Lamar Alexander’s administration as the Commissioner for the Tennessee departments of Labor and General Services.

Guess was also appointed by President Ronald Reagan as a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. WTVF
