It looks like there might finally be something positive coming out of the killing of Michael Brown and the subsequent riots in Ferguson, Missouri. According to USA Today, more than 3000 individuals have registered to vote since Brown's killing -- a substantial number in a town of just 21,000.

The paper reports that the surge, much of it believed to represent African-American voters, could result in a significant change in the town's next election. Though Ferguson's population is two-thirds African American, five of its six city council members are white, as is its mayor.

Committeeman Anthony Bell says, "It's a great move when people come out and register in mass like that. They are sending a signal that we want a change. It doesn't give justice to the Michael Brown family, but it will in the future give justice to how the administration is run in a local municipality like Ferguson."

The Angles:

It shouldn't take something like this to motivate people to vote.

Have the events in Ferguson motivated you to get more active politics?

Michael Brown's family probably isn't interested in silver linings.
