If you’ve noticed the similarities between Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and D.R.A.M.’s “Cha Cha,” you’re not the only one.
After a show in Drizzy’s native Toronto last night (Monday), the Virginia rapper addressed the comparisons. He tweeted, “Just performed in Toronto for the first time tonight and it was bittersweet. Sweet 'cause I’m here sharing my music, my sound with people. Bitter, though, 'cause after my performance all I’m seeing is “Cha Cha”/“Hotline Bling” comparisons on my timeline."
But D.R.A.M. is sanguine over the parallels. "Yeah, I feel I got jacked for my record...but I’m GOOD. I’m happy that the VA sound that me and Gabe Niles are steady working on is growing. And in 2016, we gon’ own it, G@HD@MN!”
Here's what his followers are saying on social media:
I've been wanting to ask this for a while! Your honesty is appreciated.
Maaan everything Drake doing is just promo for “Cha Cha” anyway.
Your track was out first by a few months. Real heads know the truth.
Talk About It:
Drake could have given D.R.A.M. some publishing and a cameo in the video.
Back when it was only a snippet, people thought Drake’s song was actually a “Cha Cha” remix.
Waiting until now to address it might be smart. It’s fresh on his mind since he just played on Toronto and the “Hotline Bling” video just dropped. This is a great way to plug the album coming out in a few days while using some of Drake’s momentum.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
