Brian McKnight Says Floodgates Are Open for "Filth" in the Music Industry

Brian McKnight says he would prefer artists have a greater aura of mystique when it comes to today's music and what's available online.

In an interview with California newspaper the Modesto Bee, Brian says the industry has changed and "Now that the music industry accepts filth, anyone should be able to do it if that's what they promote."  The culprit for all the negativity?  The pesky Internet, says Brian, "I think it's the greatest and worst thing that ever happened." According to Brian, "[the Internet is] nice to interact with people but it doesn't do wonders for your career like anonymity did."  With the such open access, says Brian, "Now you know everything so there's nothing to be excited about."

Back in April some critics accused the singer of TMI with his online release of the adult-themed song "If You're Ready to Learn."  Surprised to hear Brian singing about a naughty side, it may have caused a commotion but Brian insists it was a joke, adding "My core fans tend to love everything I do."  For the singer, the incident came across as a double standard as he considered, "It's OK if Lil Wayne does it but we don't want it for you."

Brian laments, "There aren't a lot of outlets for romantic black singers anymore," but on September 28, fans in Modesto can catch him performing an intimate acoustic show. Though the show is mostly family-oriented, watch out.  Brian says if he decides to delve into more adult content, he'll give the code, "ear muffs time."
