BLACK HISTORY MONTH ESSAY CONTEST WINNER 2009 brought to you by (888) 411-SEDATE

What do you think history will record about America electing its first Black President? And, what effect will Barack Obama being President have on children of all cultures?

I am so excited to have Barack Obama as our new president. I voted for him because of his qualifications, and not just because of the color of his skin. I think history will record the coming together of people of all races and cultures because of Obama's election. On inauguration day, young and old, black and white, and everyone in between were joined together to celebrate our incoming president. Tears of happiness, smiles and laughter were seen on both election day and inauguration day. It was a sign of the times, and a step in the right direction to unifying our country and hopefully eliminating all types of racism. Obama was elected during a horrible economic crisis in our country, and he brings hope to everyone that he can and will turn our economy around. President Barack Obama will have a profound effect on the children of all cultures because he inspires hope, drive, and determination in them. They will see that it's not just someone telling them that they can do it. They will see that someone HAS done it, and they will know that the possibilities are there for them, too. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks fought for African-American rights and I believe without them and others like them, Obama would not have been elected our newest president.
