Beyonce Joins United Nations, Others to Mark World Humanitarian Day

The mystery surrounding Beyonce's "footprint" Tumblr post is a mystery no more.  After inviting fans last week to leave their footprint on August 19, Bey announced on Thursday that she's teamed up with the United Nations and humanitarian aid organizations to mark World Humanitarian Day, and the Bey Hive is invited to get involved.

Bey is kicking off a global campaign to spotlight humanitarian work around the world, and she's inviting her fans to support the effort.  You're encouraged to log on to a just-launched campaign website, where you can pledge to complete at least one humanitarian act on August 19 to bring awareness to the plight of people affected by crises worldwide.

"We all see the headlines and we think what can I really do to help?" Beyonce says in a statement.  "World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a difference.  This is our time to leave our mark on the world and show that we were here and we care."

To highlight World Humanitarian Day, Beyonce will film a special video for her song "I Was Here" in the U.N. General Assembly Hall in New York City in front of a live audience.  The visual will be released on August 19.  The clip is a donation from Bey and songwriter Diane Warren to the campaign.
