Are The 11 Students Expelled For Smoking Weed At Hunters Lane High School Victims of Racism or Fairly Punished???

A friend of mine was talking to me about the Hunters Lane Football Player incident. In case you hadn't heard, 11 Football Players were caught smoking weed (allegedly) and they ALL were suspended/expelled under the Zero Tolerance Policy. The NAACP is now representing 7 of the boys saying that Zero Tolerance targets Black Males. ((Blank Stares)) I don't get that one. Am I missing something? Is this a Racism Case?

The NAACP should be involved because there is a problem with race and the zero tolerance policy. It is not as cut and dry as everyone thinks. Innocent kids could be expelled because a principal chooses not to believe them when there is no evidence against them. That's one of the areas race is involved. These principals are not believing young black men when they tell them they didn't do it. They are assuming they are guilty and they should NOT have the power to expel them without physical or visual proof! It is amazing how black people talk down about the very organization that has stepped up and defended our rights for generations. It is amazing.

If the kids were caught smoking and the witnesses are legit, and there is proof, then yes they should be put out of school, If the boys were not then there should be investigation but not with the naacp. The media blows things out of the water and don't give you all the details, so when you don't have the whole story, you tend to act out of anger. These kids these days are so uncontollable and don't mind anybody and when something happens, they want everyone to bail them out.

Speical J, you really have some nerve to actually come on this site and call these children punks and disrespect their parents with your ignorant, insensible and heartless comments. Obviously you digressed from the main points of this conversation. But in your defense, most people who make immature comments towards children such as the ones you have made, have no chidlren of their own, therefore you would not fully understand not only what it takes to be a parent, but the empathy and the love one has for their children.

Obviously there are many issues that plague this high school. From what I am hearing the biggest thorn in the side of this high school is its administration. Clearly if there is evidence of drugs smolking on the campus then these students should be delt with but the evidence must be there. To say to the media that they were caught on video tape smoking dope when actually there is no tape says that there is a larger problem. If zero tolerance is imposed against the students, there should be zero tolerance imposed against Dr. Kessler for lying. If there is evidence that some of these students have been in other incidents at school, they may warrant a more stiffer punishment than those who have not been in trouble before. School is a training ground for learning and that includes learning how to properly conduct yourself at ALL times. If there were weapons found, zero tolerance is necessary for the safety and well being of all students. If there were drugs on the school campus, investigate and charge those responsible. If she heard that there were drugs involved but has no proof, "If it does not fit, you MUST acquit". A deeper issue I have is how can a public school suspend students for conduct outside of the classroom and NOT have an alternative education available. Jesse Register must be smoking dope if he allows public education to be denied!!!!!! My tax dollars are used partially in the support of a public school system that provides a sound education for the citizens of Davidson County. OUR children make up the largest percentage of students in this school system. With that said we MUST be vigilant whenever allegations such as this surface because one day IT COULD BE MY CHILD!!! We must make sure that all of the facts are presented because ZERO means ZERO and now we have young men who are not in any school simply because of an allegation. Race card? I don't know but Stupid Card yes!!

Well, here is my take on it. White/blacks are really tired of these "young punks." Their parents know exactly what's going on and they turn their heads. Sometimes I wonder if "black people" need a "wake up" call on a regular basis. I am a black woman and I get so sick and tired of these young punks...........yes punks being disrespectful. YES they did it and they are going to continue to get in trouble and stay in trouble because they think that they reign supreme. You need to get your education and get your head out of your $$#$@#$.
Parents of young black men and women you must also learn that you should not party with your children, smoke weed with your children, sit on your porch and curse and drink and get drunk with your children. WE HAVE CREATED OUR OWN MONSTERS!!!!!! Wake up people..............WHITE FOLKS are no longer tolerating our mess anymore!!!! We are our worse enemies!!!!

I do not feel the "Zero Tolerance" policy itself is racially discriminant but the argument at hand is why is the policy disproportionately affecting African American males? You have to look at how it is being applied. If we are still using the word "allegedly" Why have they all been expelled? I have not heard that all 11 of these boys were CAUGHT smoking at the same time. If they are observed by a teacher, coach, or other responsible adult they should be expelled but according to what I have heard and the comments here, it seems these boys were immediately punished based on a statement signed without parental or legal representation. The standard of proof required to expell someone for an entire year seems to be way too low. This policy has caused a huge disparity in the number of black boys being expelled than any other race and that is a problem that Metro schools need to address NOW. I applaud the NAACP for stepping up for our children.

The entire point is, the boys were not caught smoking anything, and there is no evidence.

This is NOT racism. Okay I don't know ALL of the facts and I'm hearing a lot of hearsay but I don't care what their color is..they should be expelled. On the first day of school, ALL students received the Handbook and Zero Tolerance Policy so those boys and their parents were aware of the consequences of their actions. Right now the NAACP should focus on why our school system is so imbalanced within Davidson County? Why point at Williamson County when Davidson County ALONE is a mess!!! That's what NAACP should get involved in.

Now if a child is caught with drugs on their possession or in the act that is different, yes they should be expelled..BUT if they are not then that is another story....And for those who don't understand zero tolerance and how it affects black males I have this to say, in cases where there is NO evidence only hearsay.....If you child is questioned by their principal and she chooses to believe them they will remain in school...if your child is questioned by their principal and she chooses not to believe them they are expelled. The race issue that is raised with the zero tolerance policy is that if a principal is not of the same race as your child and don't tend to be as sympathetic or can't relate to your child they tend to be harder on them and less likely to believe them.

The NAACP needs to find something better to do with their time. These teen are not babies. They knew the rules. They made a choice and all choices have consequences. They should be happy they are not in jail. Maybe next time they will consider how drastically their lives can be altered by not following the rules. The end.
