Are The 11 Students Expelled For Smoking Weed At Hunters Lane High School Victims of Racism or Fairly Punished???

A friend of mine was talking to me about the Hunters Lane Football Player incident. In case you hadn't heard, 11 Football Players were caught smoking weed (allegedly) and they ALL were suspended/expelled under the Zero Tolerance Policy. The NAACP is now representing 7 of the boys saying that Zero Tolerance targets Black Males. ((Blank Stares)) I don't get that one. Am I missing something? Is this a Racism Case?

Rules are in place for a reason. Zero Tolerance is zero tolerance. Wrong has no color. These students if proven guility, should recieve the pre-determined consequences. ALL MNPS students receive a handbook that outlines all rules and consequences for rules infractions. Thow who are proven to not be guilty should receive a consequence that matches their violation. It is unfortunate, but these young men must understand rules, they will be under them for eternity. If they make ti to collegiate athletics..NCAA has RULES! Elgibility is steeped in rules! If they were not black..they would still be wrong! I dont see where the case fro racism comes in..other than a way to cry foul in hopes of dodging a bullet. What the administrator does did not factor into the choices these boys made. ZERO TOLERANCE targets rules violators who think, "it will never happen to me"! If there is no evidence and only circumstancial, then it needs to be addressed. These young men put themselves, their families, and future at risk..it all goes back to CHOICES...I hope this works out for them, they deserve a future.

the bad part about this is that everybody has a case for racism. No matter what color you are , wjay nationality, whatever. I am white and have experienced racism. It is no more fair for me to have to experience it, than anyone else. I cannot control what happened a long time ago. I can only control my actions. My youngest child is a 6th grader at a charter school in Metro Nashville. He is bi racial. He is consistently called cracker, etc by black children because he's very light skinned and because of the way he talks. Now if he called black children a n****, he would get ganged. It is no more right for him to be called a cracker than for an all black child to be called a n****. Until we ALL stop the racism, it will continue. The issue at hand, however, is is racism in this case? I don't know. But as I stated earlier, ALL athleted in metro schools should be drug tested. All should be treated the same. Did white children acknowledge taking druges and weren't kicked off? If so then we have a real problem. I just hate to see these guys not have what so many kids look forward to and maybe they have nothing else. Kicking them out of school and off teams DOES NOT solve the problem. There should be alternative forms of punishment, treatment and counseling and some suspensions from games.

ALWAYS SEAM TO BE RACISM INMETRO SCHOOL AGAINST BLACKS RECENTLY I EXPERINCED IT IN METRO WORK PLACE 10 GIRLS WORKING 5BLACK AND 5WHITE BUT ONLY 3 BLACKS WERE ASIGN TO CLEAN THE RESTROOMS. SHOULD EVERY WORKING BODY THAT USE THE RESTROOM BE ASIGN TO CLEAN IT. SO IT WAS SAID THAT PART-TIMER CLEAN THE REST ROOM BUT, OUT OF 4 PART TIME GIRLS THREE BLACK AND ONE WHITE THE WHITE WASN'T ASIGN ....HELL-O WHAT DO YOU THINK.S?

This is not Dr. Kessler’s first accusation of racial discrimination. This principal was fired from Wilson Co after racial discrimination charges; which she was sued by that plaintiff who won that suite. Last year this principal continued her tactics at Hunters Lane by firing the only Black male assistant principal at that school…which by the way, he too has sued her for unlawful termination and the case is currently in federal court! Out of the only 6 Black males working at that school last year, she fired 3!! The school counseling department had 3 Back employees last year…she got rid of all 3 including one Hispanic male! Finally yet importantly, she got rid of a black Liberian last year too! While working at that school I witness first hand her bias attitudes towards the Black students…one example she attempted to not graduate 7 seniors in the IB program, a program that has college level courses considered to be above the advanced placement courses. I had to go over her head and complain to the Board in order for those students to be able to graduate. She would unjustly suspend black students for weeks at a time for minor infractions such as talking in class. There is no doubt in my mind that this incident was racially motivated. I dare anyone to drive by the school take a look at the football field, then look at the baseball field…you will see a dramatic difference! She would not dare suspend any of the white boys who play baseball…as you will see she even spends more money on that program than she does on any other athletic program…go ahead…look for yourself!

I don't know so much that's it's racism. The students happen to be black, but what concerns me most is that I feel they are making an example out of these boys. I am CERTAIN that drug use is rampant on metro schools, athletes included. To be an athlete is a privilege, not a right. I feel that EVERY student that plays sports, including cheerleaders should submit to mandatory drug testing. Coaches should also be included in that testing. My son graduated from a metro school last year. A school where coaches sometime drank before games. That is un acceptable. Yes, the kids know better. I fully agree. At the same time, we have to hold teachers and parents accountable for some of these kids behavior. They emulate what they see. If a child has problems with drug abuse, get them help. Some of these kids have sports and that is it. Taking that from them may not be the answer.

Again it amazes me how people can make such direct comments about others without knowing facts. I see now this is the world that we live in. For those who don't know...The facts are and I repeat FACTS not assumptions (1) they were not caught on camera, (2) They were not caught in action by faculty or security, (3) marijuana was not found in the school, (4) marijuana was not found on them, (5) all did not sign the statements they were pressured to write because they were not true, (6) most of them took an observed drug test and passed only a few days after the alleged event. So you tell me if this was YOUR child and these were the facts and your child tells you they were not involved would you agree to the principal expelling them because of hearsay?

I believe that the 11 students should not be expelled from school. I believe the students need to get some type of drug treatment. I do not know if they were single out because of their race; I just believe they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The reason I say this is because my children are in middle school at JT Moore where 92% of the students are white and the school have had several locker checks for drugs & weapons. Thank the Lord, they have never found anything in the school. I believe the Board of Education have a right to check any school, teacher or student for any illegal actions that is taking place at school to ensure to safety of those students who come to school to LEARNl; we as parent need to talk to our children about things like this and make every effort to get our children the help they need. Loving our children mean talking to our children about drugs, guns& under age drinking. WE NEED TO LEARN TO TAKE ACTION. I AM PRAYING FOR THE STUDENTS

This is NOT a Racism Case...back up, when the administration "pressured them" about smoking weed, they admitted that they have been smoking weed. If they were innocent, how come they didn't volunteer to take a drug test to prove their innocence? You want to know why, because these young men having been smoking weed prior to this point, they felt as if they were getting away with it, so they kept smoking weed and now 11 football players have been expelled. Parents quit trying to take up for their actions, let them deal with the punishment, accept the responsibility, learn from the mistake they have made, and move on....
