A Supreme Court With Corporate Hands Up Their Robes!

In a highly controversial decision, the Supreme Court ruled Monday that the federal government can't make owners of companies supply birth control coverage to female employees if they object to the government's requirement on religious grounds.

The five-four ruling essentially says that corporations -- such as the craft chain stores Hobby Lobby and Mennonite-owned furniture manufacturer Conestoga Wood Specialties --  have religious rights. Those companies argued that it was against their religious beliefs to pay for emergency contraception.

While pro-life religious groups applauded the ruling, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote in her dissent, "The court, I fear, has ventured into a minefield." She questioned whether employers with other religious beliefs would object to blood transfusions, anti-depressants, medicine derived from pigs, including intravenous fluids, anesthesia and pills coated with gelatin; and vaccinations.
