Newtown, Connecticut and the nation are still trying to come to grips with the unthinkable tragedy of Friday's elementary school shootings that took the lives of 20 first graders and six women. President Obama visited the grief-stricken town on Sunday and spoke to the nation, saying we as a country must do more to prevent mass shootings.
Obama said, "We can't tolerate this anymore. These tragedies must end. And to end them, we must change." Although Obama said he will use his power as president to deal with the recent spate of mass shootings, he gave no specifics. "I'll use whatever power this office holds to engage my fellow citizens in an effort at preventing more tragedies like this," he said. "Because what choice to we have?"
Obama added that our "first job" as a nation is caring for our children, but said we're failing, adding, "We are not doing enough, and we will have to change."
