At least four people were killed, including the shooter, and 14 others were injured in a shooting at Fort Hood on Wednesday afternoon, official said.

The suspected gunman has been identified as a 34-year-old soldier named Ivan Lopez. He died after shooting himself, according to the Justice Department. He was a married Iraq veteran who was being treated for anxiety and depression and was also being evaluated for post-traumatic stress disorder. The weapon used in the attack was a recently purchased semi-automatic .45 caliber Smith and Wesson pistol.

At least four victims suffering from gunshot wounds were sent to Scott and White Hospital in Central Texas where chief medical officer Glen Couchman said, "Their conditions range from quite stable to quite critically injured."

Fort Hood announced the shooting via their Twitter account, when just after 5 p.m. local time they advised all personnel to take shelter.

This latest shooting comes four-and-half years after Major Nidal Hasan opened fire at the base, killing 13 and injuring more than 30 others. Hasan, who was paralyzed during the gunfight, has been sentenced to death and is awaiting execution.
