A lawsuit has been filed against Jay Z by a man who claims he's a co-owner of the copyright to at least six of Jay's albums.
Back in April, Chauncy Mahan demanded a $100,000 ransom from Jay for master tapes he was hoarding for nearly a decade. Jay ended up dropping the extortion claims he initially filed with the LAPD against the producer and the the recordings stayed in police custody.
But now, Mahan has filed a new lawsuit against Jay. According to TMZ, Mahan claims he was one of the first sound engineers to master the Pro Tools production software and was a key creator in a number of huge Roc-A-Fella releases, including The Life and Times of S. Carter and The Dynasty.
Mahan wants to be acknowledged as co-owner of the copyrights and that he was essential to the creation of the music, which would give him the right to the masters he previously had in his possession.
