TSU Marches for Trayvon

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Hundreds of community members came out Tuesday night for a peace walk in honor of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

The walk at Tennessee State University came four days after neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman was found not guilty of killing Martin.

The event started with singing, prayer, and speeches from some of the participants, including members of the local chapter of the NAACP. Many people came wearing hoodies in honor of Martin, and carrying signs. Some chanted "We Want Justice" as they started walking.

TSU student and event organizer Danielle Robinson used social media to get the word out, and said the goal was simply to make a peaceful statement in support of Martin.

"It's important to support his family and let them know the nation is grieving with them, they aren't alone. To every other parent, if you lost a child and there was no justice served, there needs to be justice for them," Robinson said.

Another prayer vigil will be held for Martin on Saturday at the Federal Courthouse Building on Broadway in Nashville from noon to 2 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend.
