Would You Let Your Effiminate Son...Join The Girl Scouts?

Bobby Montoya has been playing with dolls since he was 2 years old, and his mother, Felisha Archuleta, says he's been dressing like a girl since he could pick out his clothes. She's always allowed him to do his own thing, and didn't think much of it. "As long as he's happy," she told KUSA-TV. But when Bobby told her he wanted to join the Girl Scouts with his sister, she suddenly found herself confronting the public.

According to The Daily Mail, Archuleta tried to sign Bobby up for the Girl Scouts, but was denied on the grounds that "he has boy parts." She says a troop leader told her they were worried about upsetting the parents of other girls in the group. Bobby told KUSA, "It was like somebody told me I can't like girl stuff, and I have to change my name to something else."

However, when Archuleta took the issue higher up, she found the state Girl Scouts weren't at all opposed to letting Bobby join. In fact, they were enthusiastic. They said, "Girl Scouts is an inclusive organization. If a child identifies as a girl and the child's family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout ... [we] are working to best support these children, their families, and the volunteers who serve them."

Clinical psychologist Shawn Worthy told 9 News, "It's great for [Archuleta] to support her son, but there's also an external piece of the world that is probably not going to be so friendly ... We create our children's narrative about the world. We create the way they understand it, so a lot of times the way we feel about it and the way we talk about it will affect the way they approach it in the future.
