Why D’Angelo’s gut-wrenching tribute to Prince might make you cry

On April 21, 1986, Prince wrote “Sometimes it Snows in April” and reportedly recorded the song in one take. Thirty years later, it would be the same date that he would take his last breath.

The song, which bids farewell to the character Christopher Tracy from the film Under the Cherry Moon, was covered by D’Angelo on “The Tonight Show” on April 26. Assisted by backup singers Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum, D’Angelo appeared behind a piano as purple lighting lit the stage and began singing the melancholy ballad.

“I used to cry for Tracy because I wanted to see him again, but sometimes sometimes life ain’t always that way. … Sometimes it snows in April, sometimes I feel so bad, so bad. Sometimes I wish life was never ending, and all good things, they say, never last. Love isn’t love until it’s passed,” he sang.

At one moment during the performance, D’Angelo paused for a second and cried while singing the lyric, “I often dream of heaven and I know that Prince is there.”

D’Angelo proved to be the perfect artist to convey such emotions.

The tribute was another example of how Prince touched lives through music and will always be remembered as an important figure in arts and culture.

D you the man!!!!! I have always wandered since becoming in the know that many entertainers sudden deaths are really assassinations if it is in the back of entertainers minds 'when will they no longer need me and dispose of me. When is my sudden kill coming'? Its a damn shame many went into the entertainment arena merely for fun to share their talent with the world and end up in a dark pit with zillions of snakes. The main reason the average Joe is no longer allowed in the arena entertainers now must grow up in the filth easy to control from birth as the sick maddness going down is normal.
