What Is Missing From Nashville Night Life & Night Clubs? Why Do Black Adults Seem To Languish In Suspended Animation in the Music City?

It's an age old question in the Music City?  Where is the Black Night Life and Night Club scene that suits my tastes?  I admit, I can pretty much party with ANYONE?  But that's because I am a seasoned radio vet that's lived all over the country.

It's nothing for me to walk into a room full of "weed smoke" and shake something in there...then leave and head out to a Wine and Cheese event full of attorneys!  My dad taught me to associate with Kings and Janitors..."Son, they are all just men!"

But that doesn't help this situation.  E'erbody can't just roll with E'erbody.  So what happens is the city just deflates.  People spend more of their time in Atlanta (Fri-Sun) than they do in their own hometown or "work" hometown unless 92Q is throwing a special event.  The city never gets to expand into what it could be because YOU are not there.

So I guess the question becomes...How do we get you HERE?  What is it that you seek in other cities over the weekends that could very well be provided right here in Nashville?

I know many of you are well passed the "going out" every week age, but there are times when you do want to come chill and kick it with your friends or co-workers.  But what does that event look like and how can we make it so that the club owners and promoters can turn a profit to continue doing said event?

I think hearing from you guys is what's going to change the course of what's been happening to our city.  You know what I mean:  First an event or club starts out as "grown and sexy".  Then "Lil Ray Ray & Dem" show up and start popping bottles.  Next thing you know, the club turns into something that you'd rather not attend.  But here's what I know...the club owners only turn to them when the clients they want leave.  I mean, who wants to deal with Ray Ray and Dem ;)

So please post something...people want to hear from YOU!

I think first off,the dress codes are WAY TOO RELAXED,when grown people dress up,you feel good, look good and are less likely to get into a fight and act a fool in the club, second there are no consistent 'grown and sexy' ,clubs, after a while it starts off as "college night",then maybe "teen night" and it goes downhill from there.I like jazz, ambiance and chic decor...not a hole in the wall. And also a age range of men 28 and up and women 25 and up would greatly help.Ijs-Sonia

I feel your frustration Smoov. Where we're from when there is so much happening all of the time (that you take for granted) & diversity to a place where there isn't as much going on. And it seems that you have all the answers to get it poppin' but folks just don't support it. I know you hear the masses complaints constantly that there is nothing quality to do. Then when you present it to them, folks either don't know how to act or don't show up at all. I travel back to Jersey to do events, but for the most part Iowa City is DEAD (for grown folks)! I have a garage full of equipment & music collecting dust because there is absolutely NOTHING to do here. At least Nashville has a pulse with you and the radio station. In Iowa City, it's like throwing a party in a cemetery. I ain't spinning on my head like I was 25 years ago but I still like to "cut a rug" every now and then. Or just play some music for folks that appreciate & want to have a good time without all of the drama. I ain't dead yet. Just keep pushin' playa..... or maybe we can meet back up in Killeen (LOL).

Kenny you have a great topic. At this stage in my life I don't go out often but when I do I want to socialize in a mature environment with good music (old & new), good food & drinks & in a safe place. I sometimes go to old school happy hour at Cirok but as soon as your done & the music & crowd changes time to go. And from a business stand point I understand why owners find themselves catering to Ray Ray & dem because they're the ones spending money consistently. Its all about support & money. Nashville is a great place to get it popping for a truly adult crowd but how you can get the support to be a success I don't know.
