Some law enforcement officials are unhappy that the app allows users to find out the location of officers and have asked Google, which owns Waze, to shut that functionality off.
One of the law enforcement officials speaking out is the Los Angeles Police Department's top cop, Chief Charlie Beck.
Google issued a statement in response that said many police agencies are fans of Waze because the ability to share traffic problems and road closures is helpful to police.
