USHER SAYS: POP IS TRYING TO KILL R&B

Usher says pop music is infiltrating R&B -- and it's not a good thing. He tells the U.K.'s Daily Star, "There's a very fine line between what's R&B and pop these days. Just because it's sung by a male minority doesn't mean you're urban or R&B... The true value of R&B has been brought down."

Usher has long championed a return to genuine R&B in the tradition of legends like Marvin Gaye and Teddy Pendergrass.

I AGREE WITH USHER I DONT QUITE UNDERSTAND THE MUSIC THESE YOUNG GUYS ARE MAKING, IT DOES'NT GIVE YOU THAT FEELING WE USE TO GET FROM OUR ARTIST.

Everything sounds alike today. All high pitched whining. Al Green sounds nothing like Marvin Gaye. Luther Vandross sounds nothing like Jeffery Osborne. And that's what we are missing. The labels want music that can be played on 92Q and 107.5...vh1 and bet. This means that artists have to fit into a box instead of being themselves and becoming legends.
