Tyrese lands his first No. 1 Billboard album in 20 years of music

With the album Black Rose, Tyrese has scored his first Number 1 album on the Billboard charts since he began his music career 20 years ago.

The sales for the first week of “Black Rose” soared to the top with 86,000 equivalent album units in sales, which surpassed Tyrese’s previous album sales for the first week of his 2011 album “Open Invitation.” “Black Rose” reached 83,000 pure album sales as compared to the 76,000 that his previous album, “Open Invitation” reached. The 2011 album reached Number 9 on the charts but never reached that coveted Number 1 spot.

Just as interestingly, Tyrese’s first week at the top coincides with Billboard 200’s first week using Nielsen Music’s new tracking week, which starts on Friday and goes through Thursday, instead of the week they used to use, which started on Monday and went through Sunday. The change was made after albums began to be released on Fridays rather than on Tuesdays. The Grio
