Things People Are Talking About Today! (07-10-18)

CARDI B: Ex-Manager Claps Back

Cardi B’s ex-manager, Klenord “Shaft” Raphael, fired back against his former client’s lawsuit.  Shaft’s reps issued a statement responding to Cardi’s $15 million countersuit. It reads, “The facts are simple — Cardi B’s music, image, and rise to superstardom were all developed and executed by Shaft and his team of writers and producers… The outright lies and distortions in her claims make you shake your head. This is just more of the same campaign by Cardi B and her team to defame and injure Shaft, the one person who saw promise in her, invested time and resources in her, and succeeded in making her rich and famous.”

Shaft alleges that Cardi screwed him when she signed a management deal with Quality Control. He alleges breach of contract, unjust enrichment and defamation in his original $10 million lawsuit. Meanwhile, she says she was in the right in firing him, considering he was skimming large amounts of money and lying to her about her actual income. (Page Six)

THAI CAVE RESCUE: 11th Boy Rescued

Divers in Thailand successfully rescued the 11th boy from a flooded cave earlier this morning, leaving just one more player from the youth soccer team and the coach still waiting to be taken out.

Rescuers removed four boys from the cave in each of the past two days and expect to complete their mission today. Each boy removed from the cave is then immediately transported to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown, but it is believed that many of them are being treated for infections, but are otherwise in good condition. They're expected to remain hospitalized for about a week. TRUMP'S SUPREME COURT PICK: Brett Kavanaugh Gets the Nod

Donald Trump named Brett Kavanaugh, a federal appeals court judge, as his pick for a new Supreme Court Justice Monday evening in a nationally televised press conference.

Trump wants the 53-year-old Kavanaugh to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, who recently announced his retirement. Shortly after announcing his pick, Trump said, "Judge Kavanaugh has impeccable credentials. Throughout legal circles, he is considered a true judge's judge."

Kavanaugh, an ideological conservative, may face a rough confirmation process, since Democrats fear that Trump's pick could join the other conservatives on the Supreme Court and eventually overturn the landmark Roe versus Wade decision.

Kavanaugh will need a majority of 51 votes to be confirmed.

This is Trump's second nomination to the Supreme Court. Last year he nominated Neil Gorsuch, who was confirmed and replaced the late Justice Antonin Scalia. (CNBC)

George Clooney was hospitalized following a motorcycle accident.

Clooney was commuting Tuesday morning on the Italian island of Sardinia. A car turned in front of his motorbike and hit Clooney. The 57-year-old was rushed by ambulance to the nearest emergency room where he was given an MRI. Tests were negative.  A tweet from an Italian news outlet said (quote) “George Clooney at the hospital. His bike ended up against a car that was turning."
