The Wiz: Live verison during the holidays

The Wiz is being remade for the 2015 holiday season.

NBC has announced the network will air a live version of the classic musical on December 3rd. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the duo who handled NBC’s live renditions of The Sound Of Music and Peter Pan, are set to produce it, Tony winner Kenny Leon will direct, and Cirque du Soleil will be involved in the production. The show will then move to Broadway for 2016.

The original The Wiz: The Super Soul Musical “Wonderful Wizard of Oz” opened on Broadway in 1975, winning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The film was released in 1978 with an all-star cast including Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross, Lena Horne and Richard Pryor. (AllHipHop)
