VICK SET TO BE FREE

Michael Vick's dogfighting sentence is scheduled to end today. With the end of Vick's sentence through the federal Bureau of Prisons, the electronic monitor Vick has been wearing could be removed. This will also enable Vick to begin lobbying N-F-L commissioner Roger Goodell to reinstate the quarterback, who was released last month by the Atlanta Falcons.

RIHANNA: Rated R?

Rihanna's new album will reportedly be titled Rated R. A black-and-white photo of what is purported to be the cover shows her from the back pointing toward her head and displaying a cluster of star tattoos trailing down her neck. Label reps didn't return our calls for comment.

JANET JACKSON: Done With Dupri

Janet Jackson has reportedly split with longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri. Janet watchers noted the rapper and music exec's absence from Michael Jackson's memorial. A Los Angeles Times gossip item quoting unnamed insiders said the couple had "been moving in different directions for a while." The item also says that Janet has been busy caring for her brother's three children since he died. Michael's spiritual advisor, Reverend June Gatlin, told Entertainment Tonight that if his mother was unable to take care of his children, "then he trusted his sister Janet to take his children."

Q-TIP: Writing a Book

Q-Tip is penning a memoir titled Industry Rules that will come out next year, around the 20th anniversary of A Tribe Called Quest's debut disc, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. The main idea for the book came from a verse Q-Tip spit on Tribe's "Check the Rhime," from their sophomore disc, The Low End Theory. "Industry rule number-four-thousand-and-80/ Record company people are shady."

Tip says, "It was important to me to write a book because on the whole, I feel we could all be more literate, and as an artist, I'm always looking for ways to do something cool, different, and both light and introspective at the same time."

PAULA OUT?

Paula Abdul might not be returning to American Idol next season. Abdul hasn't received a proposal for a new contract and her manager tells the L-A Times, "She's not a happy camper as a result of what's going on. She's hurt. She's angry ... Very sadly, it does not appear that she's going to be back on Idol."
