THE SHOW 8-27-09: TLC TO PERFORM/LIL WAYNE GOES TO SCHOOL/NAACP TO SUPPORT GAY RIGHTS MARCH/WHY DO WOMEN HAVE AFFAIRS WITH MINISTERS?

TLC TO PERFORM IN OCTOBER

The remaining members of T-L-C -- Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas -- will perform in the U-S for the first time in seven years, reuniting for the benefit concert Justin Timberlake and Friends. Timberlake hosts the show, scheduled for October 17th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The group's third original member, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, was tragically killed in a car accident in 2002. Other guests will also include country sensation
Alicia Keys and Ciara.

LIL WAYNE TELLS KIDS TO GET THEIR A$$ BACK IN SCHOOL

Lil Wayne helps promote education in a public service announcement he's taped for the non-profit organization Get-Schooled-dot-com. Wayne says in the ad, "Right now, fewer than one-in-ten low-income students can expect to earn a bachelor's degree. The time is now for bold reform. We owe the next generation a brighter future." Weezy isn't exactly a poster-boy for education, having dropped out of school at 14. COMMENT BELOW: What do you think will have a bigger influence on youth -- Wayne's P-S-A or his lyrics?

BOND BACKS GAYS, LESBIANS

N-double-A-C-P chairman Julian Bond continued his long-support for the gay and lesbian community by recently announcing his endorsement of the National Equality March. Speaking at a dinner engagement in Los Angeles, Bond stated,"G-L-B-T rights are civil rights; there are no 'special rights' in America. Everyone has rights -- or should have -- and I am happy to join in this battle for justice and fairness. Set for October 11th in Washington, the National Equality March aims to obtain equal full rights for gays. COMMENT ON THIS: How do you feel about comparisons between the black community's struggle for civil rights and that of the gay community? Is the struggle one and the same?

PRESIDENT OBAMA TO DELIVER KENNEDY EULOGY

President Obama will deliver the eulogy at Senator Ted Kennedy's funeral service on Saturday at The Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Boston. The 14-hundred seat church became a special place for Kennedy when he prayed there in 2003 when is daughter Kara was being treated for lung cancer. Today, Kennedy's remains will be transported by motorcade from the family compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts to the J-F-K Presidential Library in the Boston neighborhood of Dorchester. A public wake will follow today, and the public viewing will continue on Friday until 4:00 p-m. The library will close for an invitation-only memorial service that evening, where speakers could include the President, Vice President Biden and perhaps Senator John McCain, a political opponent but close friend of Kennedy. Following the funeral, Kennedy's body will be transported to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, where he will be buried near his brothers John and Robert.

THAT AIN'T CHRISTIAN-LIKE

Pulpit affairs have long been a dirty little secret in the black church. Doctor Betty Price, who is married to well-known television minister Apostle Doctor Fred Price of the Ever Increasing Faith Ministry, has written about the subject in her book A Warning to Ministers, Their Wives and Their Mistresses. Some of Price's points include:

1) Most of these women want a way out
2) Ministers sometimes abuse their power by threatening and coercing these women, telling them if they stop the affair then they would be "dishonoring God."

3) Most women would go after the other woman. I never did. I would never run
after a woman. I tell women to go after him. If he doesn't listen to you and
see what it's doing to you, then you leave.

Glad to hear about TLC too! They still look good after all these years. What ever happened to all the girl groups? Do we even have one out today worth talking about?

I don't think that the fight for gay rights and the fight for blacks in the civil rights movement is the same. There are stark differences in the two. With the civil rights movement blacks could not perform basic tasks because of their skin color. Gays are not made to sit in the back of buses, fight water hoses and police dogs, drink from separate water fountains, or use different educational facilities. The public is made aware of a person's sexual orientation when that person wants them to know (i.e. when they speak, hold hands, public displays of affection), but the public is aware you are black immediately. Two totally separate struggles.
As far as the question about the allure of having an affair with a minister? It's like asking what's the allure of watching mexican midget porn? I don't know but different strokes for different folks. Good Morning KOL fam!!
