"Guns In Parks Back On Metro Council Agenda"

*NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro Council members will once again debate the controversial topic of guns in parks.
Tuesday night, Councilman Sam Coleman introduced legislation that would allow guns in nine rural Metro parks.
Last August, the full council voted 22 to 18 to opt out of a Tennessee state law and ban guns in parks.
Coleman feels guns should be allowed in parks that are in rural parts of Metro Nashville/Davidson County.
"They are isolated areas. They are away from the inner-city, around children and people that are recreating at concerts. It just makes sense to have that protection if you are a gun carrying permit holder," said Coleman.
In October, Coleman asked the Metro Parks Department to compile a list of parks it deemed rural or isolated.
Park administrators came back to council with the list of nine parks that included Alvin Beaman Park and Greenway on Little Marrowbone Road, Bells Bend Park and Greenway on Old Hickory Boulevard, Cane Ridge Park on Battle Road, Couch Tract on Old Hickory Boulevard, Cecil Rhea Crawford Park on Cane Ridge Road, Hamilton Creek Park on Bell Road, Morgan Road Property on Morgan Road, Peeler Park on Neelys Bend Road and Vulcano Tract on Culbertson Road.
"If you are a gun carrying permit holder it makes sense to be able to carry your gun in those particular parks," said Coleman.
The full council passed the new bill on first reading without debate. It comes up for a second reading at the next council meeting.

"Four Men Arrested After Bordeaux Stand-Off"

*NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police, the swat team and negotiators were in a stand-off with home invaders at a house in the Bordeaux area.
Tuesday afternoon, four armed men entered a woman’s home in an apparent drug-related robbery. The woman was on the phone at the time of the home invasion, and her friend on the other line called police.
The woman and her 21-year-old son were able to flee from the home unharmed.
According to police, suspect Shannon Wilson also left them home and was apprehended before the extended stand-off.
The other three suspects, convicted felons Eric Owens, Donzell McKissack and Kejuan Shaw remained in the home and refused repeated commands to exit.
After several hours, the three men surrendered to police. All four are charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.
Metro police were withholding the suspects’ photos pending lineups in other cases.

"Crime Numbers Drop In South Nashville"

*NASHVILLE, Tenn. - South Nashville residents celebrated a drop in crime Tuesday night.
During a meeting between Metro Police South Precinct officers and citizens, Commander Mike Alexander said overall crime in the area is down 8 percent from a year ago.
"We feel very good about how that turned out,” said Alexander.
Residents and business owners in Metro's South Precinct are keeping an eye on crime and sharing information with police.
Compared to last year, the number of homicides were down 8 percent, the number of rapes decreased 13 percent and commercial robberies dropped 12 percent.
"It's just phenomenal. We just feel a lot safer and we're working very hard to unify the community around these positive stats," said Antioch resident Rodney Beard.
Beard said police and residents have developed a positive relationship. Metro officer Mike Harrell is confident residents and police will continue the partnership and the progress.
"I'm so proud of that, and a lot of that has to do with again with the neighborhood watch and the interaction that we have with them," said Harrell.
The commander said it is likely residential burglaries will be up slightly compared to last year's numbers. He wants neighbors to be on alert and report any suspicious activity to police.

"Nashville Parks Director Roy Wilson resigns"

*Saying he saw the writing on the wall, Metro Nashville Parks Director Roy Wilson announced his retirement on Tuesday in a letter to Mayor Karl Dean and the parks board.
In a separate e-mail to parks employees on Tuesday morning, Wilson said he found another job out of state and would leave his post Dec. 31.
"At 98, my mother is still one of the wisest people I know and one of her greatest lessons to me has been, 'when you see the handwriting on the wall, you should stop and read it,' " Wilson said in his e-mail.
Wilson, 61, made his resignation plans known one day after a special joint meeting of two Metro
