The Show (09-28): Pearl Cohn Murders/Alicia Keys is a MAN-Stealer/Shooting at Big T's/Tigers and Titans LOSE/Rick Ross Not Paying Child Support

PEARL COHN HIGH SCHOOL CENTER OF TWO TEEN MURDERS

The buzz on the ground last week at Pearl-Cohn High School was the deaths of two students, allegedly at the hands of two other students, within three days of each other. The violence has unnerved everyone. "These kids are
very traumatized by this," said Pearl-Cohn Principal Marva Woods. "It has been
an extremely challenging and stressful week." Students are blaming the rezoning.

Pearl-Cohn is one of the high schools at the center of the district's rezoning that took effect this year. The school district wanted kids to be zoned to neighborhood
schools, instead of bused across town. But it now faces a challenge in federal
court that the plan effectively resegregated Nashville's schools, making white
schools whiter and black schools blacker. The school district says its enrollment
statistics refute that claim. But Pearl-Cohn students weren't debating race
last week. They were talking about gangs. They think the rezoning of students
from Hillwood High to Pearl-Cohn has stirred up gang activity by bringing rival
gangs together at Pearl-Cohn, and they point to the student deaths as evidence
of that. Metro Schools assistant superintendent Ralph Thompson said one death
appeared to be gang-related, although police have not identified any of the
teens involved as gang members.

Police and school officials don't believe rezoning is to blame for gang tension. The school principal acknowledged that the students fear this, however, and
worry the violence will get worse. "I don't feel safe," said 17-year-old Teondria
East. "I'm scared. I feel scared for people who have to walk home from school."
Martie Gooch, a senior at Pearl-Cohn, thinks things will get worse, and he blames
the rezoning for bringing different kids into school. "They was all saying it
ain't a good idea, but if you don't show up to the board meeting, your opinion
is no good," Gooch said. "I believe they should have kept our zones," East said.
Both of the teens killed were 16 — Demetrice Jones was shot on the front porch
at his birthday party; and Rodderick Gordon was shot about an hour after school
on 16th Avenue North. The one Thompson said could be gang-related involved Jones,
a Pearl-Cohn student. The suspect in his killing is a 16-year-old Hillwood High
student. Gordon was a former Hillwood student in his first year at Pearl-Cohn.
The suspect in his case is a 15-year-old Pearl-Cohn student. He told police
the shooting was an accident, but he is facing criminal charges. Principal Woods
said the school brought in extra counselors to help students deal with the deaths.

The school has more students now. It went from about 600 to 761 divided into schools at two locations. Pearl-Cohn ninth-graders are at McKissack Academy, and 10th-12th grades are at Pearl-Cohn. Woods splits her time between
the two buildings with the help of an assistant. Thompson said in addition to
counselors, the district has assigned extra police to patrol both Hillwood and
Pearl-Cohn. "We understand the anxiety of the students and the parents, and
we're not taking this matter lightly," he said. "But there is no reason to believe
this is a direct result of the rezoning."

LOWER BILLS COMING SOON FROM NES

Lower power bills should be expected as TVA begins its new fiscal year on Thursday. The utility's board raised rates when it met last month but reduced the fuel adjustment charge. Although that fee can now be altered monthly,
the combined result for most electricity users will be at least an initial reduction
in what they pay. TVA will raise base rates by eight percent effective Thursday,
but an 11 percent decline in fuel adjustment charges should offset that at least
initially. The decision will impact about 9 million people receiving electricity
from TVA in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina
and Virginia.

WHO WAS SHOOTING AT BIG T'S SATURDAY NIGHT?

Metro Police are trying to figure out what started a bar fight Sunday morning. It ended with four people shot or stabbed.

Police said a fight started inside Big T's sports Bar & Grill on Dickerson Pike. Then the fight moved to the parking lot. Two gunmen started shooting, and bullets hit three people.

ALICIA KEYS ACCUSED OF MAN STEALING SWIZZ BEATS

Read this letter that Swizz Beats EX WIFE wrote to Alicia Keys about stealing her then HUSBAND?

After having a great evening with my son and enjoying some fun twit chat, I decided to sign off and get some work done. However, a few hours later I was advised that I should check @Alicia keys twit page. I've never reached
out to her on twitter before. I feel our issues are a lot more serious than
a website conversation. Not to mention that I've reached out to her many times
in the beginning of this whole thing, as any wife would do. Unfortunately, I
never succeeded in getting a response. The 1st time I meet AK, my husband introduced
us to each other at an event. ( I have no choice but to call him my husband,
until he is not anymore) In the messages that I sent to her (AK), I made it
very clear that on the contrary of what she might be hearing, I am still married
to my husband, living with him and just had a child. Its been two years and
I still have not received a response. What I do receive, is constant displays
of selfishness and disconcern to me and my son.

I was a fan of AK's last album, we were both signed to J Records and I always checked up on her projects. I sang her songs and admired her for creating Superwoman and Karma, I would never deny her, her talent. I believed
in her until I found out she was possibly sleeping with my husband. The affair
was denied by both, until it was finally admitted months later.

Already I can hear some of you saying " why are u blaming her, You cant make someone leave their wife, You cant break something thats broken".
Well, my marriage was not broken, as far as I knew we were celebrating our sons
birth and getting ready to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary . Call it
blind love, whatever. I call it being a devoted wife.. As far as me blaming
her and not blaming him, thats false. Me and my husband have worked out our
differences. We are in a good place as people and as parents. I accept his choices
and I am comfortable enough with myself to move on. I am so very blessed in
many ways.

My concern with AK is no longer the fact that she assisted in destroying a family but that she has the audacity to make these selfish comments about love and wanting to be with someone, even after knowing their situation. How
is this the same Superwoman that I sang out loud with in my truck? I ask myself
sometimes.

If you are reading this Alicia, let me start by saying, you know what you did. You know the role you played and you know how you contributed to the ending of my marriage. You know that I asked you to step back and let me handle my
family issues. Issues that you helped to create.

Im not saying everything was perfect all the time but no relationship is perfect. We made a vow to God and I believe you should have respected that, as a woman. I know you owe me or my son nothing but I just wish you would've handled things
more carefully. I'm not judging you, I put you and the whole situation in the
hands of God, the Higher Power. Just know that as a woman, I expected so much
more from you. I never had intentions on reaching out to you this way but after
reading your twits tonight, and the constant disregard, you left me no choice.
I feel that after 1 and a half years of you hiding this affair and acting like
it doesnt exist, that now is the time to confront it, since you talk so openly
about it now

This is not a publicity stunt, I dont have a record coming out. I just need to close this chapter in my life and that means confronting our issues. There is a small child involved. His dad loves him to death and he wants
to spend more time with him but hes afraid because he knows we don't have a
relationship. This is my main concern. My son NEEDS his dad and I NEED to be
comfortable with you. For him!

CHRIS BROWN TO HEADLINE TOUR

Chris Brown has been busy lately picking up trash in his home state of Virginia, but he'll get back to the business of entertaining when he headlines Power 105's Powerhouse concert at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey on October 27th. The lineup also includes Fabolous, The Dream, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson, Mario, Ginuwine and Day 26.

Brown's new disc, Graffiti, is slated to drop before the end of the year.

RICK ROSS: Ordered to Pay Child Support

Rick Ross isn't having a great September. A group of female thieves recently robbed him of thousands of dollars in jewelry at a hotel in Nashville, and last week, a Miami judge ordered him to pay temporary child support and health coverage for his son William Roberts the Third. But Ross, who's been in an ongoing child-support battle with his ex-girlfriend Tia Kemp, was granted visitation rights.

Kemp has been taking Ross to task on Twitter, writing this summer, "I'm tired of men bragging about what they are and what they have but they're not even man enough to take care of their kids." And earlier this month, she blasted Ross on their son's birthday, stating, "Let's see if his lame-ass father actually grows enough balls and at least calls to wish his son a happy birthday."

TN TITANS AND THE TSU TIGERS

I am officially DEPRESSED after this weekend's losses.

First, I drive through the rain and wind to get to the DOME. Humiliated at the front gate about getting my press passes. Sexually molested by the Security at the Suite Boxes, Missed all the Steaks and Wine cause I got there LATE. Then had to sit through 3 missed field goals and another thrashing by the RATTLERS!! So Frank Ski and I decided to get WASTED like the White Boys at Luckie's. Good Party!

Then the Titans on Sunday were "dropping it like it's hot" just like the STRIPPERS from the previous night. What the Hell were they doing out there yesterday. Washington and Britt have gotta get it together or we'll be 0-6 in no time. I believe we're almost to the point to losing our chances at a playoff shot!

What are your thoughts about yesterday's and Saturday's Game?

It's really sad to hear all the negativity(miss spelled) about whats going on. All we can do is leave the violence in the hands to the one and only God and adultry too. Far as child support, mine ain't sent his either(LOL), To the both football teams we have it a da.n shame. Why do they practice. But you know what in due time things will get better. I know there is alot going on but my son attends 9th grade academy and daily he advises on how students just are up going here and there doing what they want to and the teachers cannot control or choose not to control even the rowdiest. I am seriously considering changing my son to a different school over recent incidents.

I hate that we don't know how act in school. The gang r just not n school, they r everywhere. I don't like football, so I don't care who win or lose. I feel that if u get a female pregant, I think that u should pay your child support. The child did not ask to be here anyway.
Comment by Karen W. Loney on September 28, 2009 at 11:36am
Rick Ross is just plain ole wrong for not paying his child support with all the money he makes. He should be MAN enough to pay his child support first before he spends his money on that ugly piece of bling he call jewerly. PAY YOUR CHILD SUPPORT FIRST @#$^@%$&.

You also hear people say Maplewood and Stratford has a gang problem. So again the spin to try to blame rezoning is not working. We have a community wide problem that we need to address with all of our youth.

Pearl Cohn is an excellent school. My nephew attended Pearl Cohn Magnet and this is not an issue of Pearl Cohn and Hillwood. Many people say that Antioch is full of gangs. Then you hear people say McGavock has a gang problem. Then you hear people say John Overton has a gang/grafitti problem. So the problem is not the rezoning. Its a larger issue that we all need to address. I have my share of this in the Antioch cluster and we are working hard to be proactive as a community in addressing some real problems that we see.

I've led a volunteer project at Pearl-Cohn over the past three years and am in disbelief at what has happened over the past couple of weeks. Marva Woods is a great Principal who has done many many good things. Unfortunately, it is not until students get killed or shot that we read about them in the local media. Remember, PCHS is a magnet school. The students there are not as "street" as people think. Many of them graduate and receive academic scholarships. Support our urban schools. Attend the "Taste of Nashville" event which raises scholarships funds for PCHS students. Demand that the media shine a light on the GOOD students who are not carrying or bouncing balls.

I hate to see children losing their lives over nothing. You have one child that's dead and another whose life is gone. The same goes for the other case. This is a no win. It's kind of like the old Warren G song "You don't see what I see" when he says... "who's the real victim, can you answer that? The brother that's jacking, or the fool getting jacked."
I feel equally sorry for all of these young people. For those who lost their life over senseless violence, and for those who saw no other alternative than to throw their life away by taking someone else's.

Moment of silence please
