KANYE WEST: Can the Ex Straighten Him Out?

Kanye West is said to be mulling a reconciliation with his former fiancee, clothing designer Alexis Phifer. Although Yeezy is rarely photographed these days without current flame Amber Rose, MediaTakeOut.com reports that following his V-M-A tantrum, he called Phifer up for support and that they've been in constant contact since. Kanye's reps didn't return our call for comment.

GLADYS KNIGHT: Rap Artists Doing Bad

Though some older performers like Patti LaBelle and Ron Isley have embraced hip-hop, others have yet to be won over. Gladys Knight tells BlackNews.com, "It's been good as far as giving young artists an opportunity to get out there. But it's been bad, in my opinion, as far as the quality of the music and the stories that they tell. It's one thing to be raw about your history, but they took it to another level and it became vulgar. It has not elevated our industry musically, and it definitely has not elevated us as African-Americans, because we show disrespect for our partners, men and women." Knight co-stars in Tyler Perry's box-office smash I Can Do Bad All by Myself.

KEYSHIA COLE PREGGO??

The rumor mill is buzzing about R&B singer Keyshia Cole and her NBA star boyfriend Daniel "Boobie" Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers. You see, Keyshia and Daniel started dating last year, and since then Keyshia has fallen head over heels for the NBA baller. She's even gone as far as getting a tattoo of his name on her shoulder. Well now there's more. According to one of our snitches, Keyshia has packed up and moved from Los Angeles to Cleveland to be closer to Daniel during basketball season. Yeah, we said Cleveland. And get this, according to another rumor, she may actually be pregnant with his child. Keyshia, you just met this dude the other day. Isn't it a little early to be pregnant with Boobie's baby?

PATRICK SWAYZE CREMATED

Patrick Swayze's remains have been cremated, according to his death certificate, which was released yesterday (Thursday). E! News says there's been no comment from Swayze's publicist about plans for a family memorial service or if his ashes -- which are now being stored at his lawyer's office -- will be scattered at his New Mexico ranch. Swayze died Monday from pancreatic cancer.

THE COSBYS TURN 25

Bill Cosby recalls he created The Cosby Show because he wasn't feeling what television had to offer at the time. He tells The Root, "I saw little kids, let's say six or seven years old, white kids, black kids. And the way they were addressing the father or the mother, the writers had turned things around, so the little children were smarter than the parent or the caregiver. I felt that it was manipulative and the audience was looking at something that had no responsibility to the family." Cosby made family cool and good parenting a celebrated practice through the series with lines like "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out." Cosby says, "I wanted to...show people that this is parenting, and this is home, and this is deep. And though these people have their careers, their lives, and they're comfortable...the wheels can come off with the behavior of your children, and you have to deal with that." The Cosby Show celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

FAMILY: Giving Up Custody to Dad

In a blog on Essence.com, New York fashion executive Andrena Andrews writes about her decision to surrender custody of her 10-year-old son Adam to her ex-husband. After the couple divorced, Andrews' ex moved to Atlanta, which she felt would be a safer environment for her son to be raised in. She writes, "It's important to me for my son to be raised by a man. I don't think I'll be able to raise Adam the way his father can. And I trust my ex-husband a thousand percent. He's going to teach our son how to be a great man."

Andres didn't expect the support she's gotten from her female friends. "They are like, 'We're so proud of you. You did what we all kinda wanted to do. It was time for you to go and learn and experience yourself as a person and then figure out who you are and what you want.'"

Essence readers, of course, are sounding off. Ms. Reed says, "I have always told my husband if we ever split for any reason, he was taking my son and I would keep my daughter. I do not see anything wrong with that -- it is a personal choice.

But Renee says, "[I] don't understand how people believe that a woman can't raise a boy. My mother stopped us with a look, and that was that... The state a person lives in has nothing to do with raising a child... I could never send my child to live with anyone -- raising my child is my responsibility."

Comment Below: Ladies, what would it take for you to give up custody of your child? Even if you trusted your ex's parenting skills?

WENDY WILLIAMS NOT IMPRESSED WITH WHITNEY HOUSTON

Lots of people are giving Whitney Houston props for speaking about her past drug use on Oprah, but Wendy Williams isn't one of them. Williams says that as a former cokehead herself, she's worried that Houston hasn't taken "ownership" of her addiction, choosing to blame Bobby Brown instead. Check out the emotional clip.

I had to comment on this one ...sorry Kenny. I agree that the state has little to do with raising a child because no matter where you are there is always a right and wrong choice. However, I strongly disagree with a woman saying "that's my child and my responsibility". The issue is, some of us are still stuck in that old "Mamas' baby, daddys' maybe attitude! Those words cut like a knife and ultimately contributed to a lot of men being exactly how they are.....absent! How are we ever going to evolve into a thriving community of self-awareness,love, and sense of culture if we don't come together and recognize the importance of a balanced life for our children? Divide and conquer is one of the most brilliant stratedgies used throughout oceans of time. A young black male without an elder male to teach him will seek and find guidance from a male perspective outside the home. All mama can do is pray that her baby will do the right thing because no matter how badly we may like to be in control or protect our kids, we can't be with them 24/7. I am proud that my sons mother recognized the need (once he bucked up to her) for a firm male figure in my sons life and gave me full custody. Now that I've gotten his mind right she wants him back and thats ok but, at least she knows now and sees that although a woman can do it, the records show that doesn't mean you should....God bless you all

RELINQUISHING PARENTAL CUSTODY:
I split from my ex almost two years ago. We have two sons, one of them is a teen ager. I am blessed that my ex is very involved in my kids lives. He goes to the schools, talks with teachers, checks in or sees them daily. My teen son is at that age where he needs the firm hand of a MAN to keep him in check. Last year I had contemplated sending him to his Father. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the Father is capable of providing a safe, nuturing, and stable environment for the child. There is no law that says a woman is the only one that knows how to raise a child, especially a male child. We actually need all the help we can get...Fathers, Family, Friends, Pastors, Teachers, Mentors and the Community.

I believe that a boy needs his father and to be raised by his father. I have raised a male for most of his life but it comes to a point where he needed his dad. I can not be a MALE and to begin to understand how to do it. A man has something that I dont and has something that only a male can get across to another male. That's i my opinion and my expereince.

I was raised by my dad from 12 until graduation...He made me a man. Women/Mothers are fabulous but a son NEEDS a real man to show him how to be a man and how to handle certain situations.

I'm sick of hearing about Kanye West. But I do think Alexis is a bit more stable than Amber...so much drama.

Cosby show is so EPIC!!!

Gladys could not be more right.
