TOP NEWS:
"US Asks Yemen for Help in Fight Against al-Qaida "

*The United States and Britain on Monday kept their embassies in Yemen closed for a second day because of threats from a local branch of the al-Qaida terrorist network. France also closed its embassy in Yemen.
Much of the world's attention is now on Yemen, after the failed Christmas Day bombing of a U.S. airliner, allegedly by a man with ties to al-Qaida in that country. The United States is asking Yemen for help in restricting al-Qaida's activities.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the situation a "difficult set of challenges" during a joint appearance with the prime minister of Qatar.
"The spillover effects from instability directly impact the neighbors. Obviously, we see global implications from the war in Yemen and the ongoing efforts by al-Qaida in Yemen to use it as a base for terrorist attacks far beyond the region," Clinton said.
Yemen is plagued by civil war, and a host of domestic problems.
"In Yemen, you have failing economy, you have a country running out of water, chronic unemployment, rampant inflation - all these things that need to be addressed and that aren't being addressed right now," Chris Boucek of the Carnegie Institute said.
He says Yemen may be too pre-occupied to combat international terrorism.

"Philippines Massacre Suspect Pleads Not Guilty "

*The prime suspect in the worst political massacre in the Philippines pleaded not guilty Tuesday when he appeared under heavy security in a special police court charged with multiple counts of murder.
Andal Ampatuan Jr. is accused of leading a brutal, deadly attack on a political rival's family, their staff and at least 30 journalists accompanying their convoy in Maguindanao province last November. The attack left 57 people dead.
The suspect belongs to the powerful Ampatuan clan that has ruled the province unchallenged for years, and was closely allied with President Gloria Arroyo.
The Ampatuans deny wrongdoing, and Ms. Arroyo has kicked the clan out of her coalition.
The hearing has been adjourned until next week.
The international community has expressed outrage over the murders and called on the Arroyo government to hold the killers accountable.
Manila quickly distanced itself from the Ampatuans after the massacre and imposed martial law in Maguindanao to allow troops to make arrests without warrants.
Ampatuan Jr.'s father, the former governor of Maguindanao, and other members of his powerful clan have also been detained and may face murder charges.

"Shirtless Tiger to Grace Vanity Fair Cover "

*Tiger Woods flexes his muscles after making a birdie putt. Photos of him bare-chested and holding weights will appear on the cover of Vanity Fair next week.

"LIL WAYNE'S LOCKS"

*According to New York State law, dreadlocks are almost always forbidden.
We reached out to a lawyer friend of ours to find out Wayne's sentence means for his almost waist-length locks.
"Male prisoners are only allowed to wear their hair in cornrows, going straight back. And they can't exceed the "natural hairline in length. Now of course our question is: what does "natural hairline mean?
"It means it can’t extend the neck. But there is one loop-hole in the issue “ though I'm not sure it's going to help Wayne. Prisoners who claim Rastafarri as their religion are allowed in most cases to keep their locks. But even then there's a process to determine if it's genuine.

HEALTH:
"Keep the Back Pain Away"
~Tips for Preventing Back or Neck Pain~
1. Develop Body Awareness
The body is an interrelated machine - an aberration in one part will diminish function in other areas.
2. Strengthen Your Core
The abdominal and back muscles work together to hold the trunk upright. The action of these muscle groups balance one another to support this area. Weak or tight torso muscles, along with any strength imbalances between them, can be the precursor to back injuries. Core strengthening programs, such as Pilates, yoga, and water exercise (to name just a few) are excellent ways to build up your trunk muscles.
3. Use Your Body Well
If you are like most people, you perform certain activites many times during the course of the day. But have you stopped to consider whether you are doing them in a mechanically efficient way?
4. Be Active and Exercise
Research has shown there are many kinds of activities that help decrease and/or prevent back pain. Exercise builds muscle tone and increases flexibility.
5. Breathe
Did you know that the same muscles that enable you to breathe also function as posture muscles?
6. Maintain a Healthy Weight
A healthy back is the working combination of nerves, muscles, bones and more. But being overweight puts pressure on these structures.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
"When you are arguing with the other side, do not use their language. We need to learn how to frame our views in such a way that our statements reflect our values. This requires a language that makes it clear what we are FOR, instead of what we are against."--- Written in 2009 by Mathias Hukporti --- Ghana
