12 Years a Slave and Dallas Buyers Club were the big winners at Sunday's Academy Awards. The former took home Best Picture and a supporting actress win for Lupita Nyong'o. The latter nabbed acting wins for lead Matthew McConaughey and supporting star Jared Leto.

BIG WINNERS

  • Will Smith presented Best Picture to 12 Years a Slave. Producer and co-star Brad Pitt gave thanks on stage and passed the mic to director Steve McQueen, who dedicated the award to all who have endured slavery, including the 21 million people living in slavery today.
  • Matthew McConaughey picked up Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club. In accepting, he gave glory to God and raised his eyes to heaven to thank his late father.
  • McConaughey's co-star Jared Leto picked up the first award of the evening, a Best Supporting Actor win for his transgender role. He gave an emotional thanks to his mom on stage.
  • Best Supporting Actress went to Lupita Nyong'o for 12 Years a Slave. In an emotional speech, she thanked her family and friends.
  • Cate Blanchett picked up Best Actress for Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine. In accepting, she gave nods to her competition, saying, “Amy Adams, everything you do, but your performance in American Hustle blew my mind. Meryl, what can I say? Sandra, I could watch that performance till the end of time.”
  • Alfonso Curaon took home Best Director for Gravity.

HOST HIGHLIGHTS

  • During the monologue, Ellen DeGeneres fired a barrage of jokes at Jennifer Lawrence for falling on her way to the stage last year, suggesting the trophy be brought to her should she win again. Ellen assured Jonah Hill he'd shown her something she hasn't seen for a long time, referring to his masturbation scene in The Wolf of Wall Street. She also reminded us that the Dallas Buyers Club "deals with the important issue of people who have sex at rodeos.”
  • Ellen staged an all-star selfie with Meryl Streep, Brad PittBradley CooperJulia RobertsKevin Spacey and others, challenging Twitter users to make it a record-breaking re-tweet. It quickly went viral.
  • Hungry celebs were treated to pizza as Ellen descended into to audience to hand off slices to stars, and ask for cash to pay the delivery guy -- who was a real delivery guy, not an actor.
  • Ellen's many wardrobe changes included all-black suits, an all-white suit and a fairy godmother costume, complete with a magical wind.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

  • The In Memoriam segment honored James Gandolfini, Karen Black, Eileen Brennan, Paul Walker, Annette Funicello, Peter O'Toole, Sid Caesar, Shirley Temple Black, Roger Ebert, Harold Ramis and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
  • Bill Murray honored the late Harold Ramis in presenting a cinematography award, adding to the nominee list, "Oh, we forgot one, Harold Ramis for CaddyshackGhostbusters and Groundhog Day."
  • Composer Robert Lopez earned his EGOT with his win for Best Original Song, "Let It Go” from Frozen. The phrase, which describes winning an EmmyGrammyOscar and Tony, was made popular on the sitcom 30 Rock.
  • The night's first standing ovation went to R&B legend Darlene 
    •  Love for the backup-singer documentary 20 Feet From Stardom. Love sang her "thank you."

    MUSICAL MOMENTS

    • Pharrell Williams wore one of his trademark hats to perform "Happy" from Despicable Me 2, taking a stroll past the front row to dance with Lupita Nyong'o, Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.
    • U2 performed “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom on a bare stage and brought the audience on their feet.
    • Pink did a 75th anniversary tribute to The Wizard of Oz with a performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
    • Bette Midler took the stage after the In Memoriam segment to salute heroes with “Wind Beneath My Wings.”
    • Broadway powerhouse Idina Menzel belted out “Let it Go” from Frozen. Presenter John Travoltabutchered her name in the intro.
    • Karen O wore a flowing red dress before an image of the moon to perform "The Moon Song" from Her.
