T.I. Joins Cast of Roots Remake

T.I. just landed a new acting gig — he’ll be joining the cast of A&E’s remake of Roots.

Tip will take on the role of Cyrus, a character described as “a headstrong slave who joined the Union Army during the Civil War.” Rounding out the cast of the mini-series are Mekhi Phifer, Laurence Fishburne, Anna Paquin, Forest Whitaker and Mario Van Peebles.

LeVar Burton, who starred in the original production, will executive produce. Questlove of The Roots will oversee the music.

The new Roots is scheduled to premiere next year. (Variety)

It will have been 40 years since the original mini-series debuted. Makes sense to update things for newer audiences.

They got some heavy hitters for the cast, there's no way this can't be good. There's more than enough talent lined up.
