Angry protesters filled the streets of a St. Louis neighborhood last night after a white off-duty police officer shot and killed a black teen.
The shooting occurred just 11 miles from Ferguson, Missouri, the site of the Michael Brown shooting. Police say the officer, who was off-duty but in uniform and working for a private security company, was pursuing three teens when one of them turned and fired a shot at him. The officer, who was uninjured, then responded by firing 17 shots, killing the 18-year-old. Officers recovered the teen's gun at the scene.
Later at night, a crowd of about 200 protesters flooded the streets and blocked traffic. Some punched and kicked police vehicles, but the protests were mostly non-violent and no arrests were reported. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave as an investigation is under way. (Reuters)
