The crew of the space shuttle Discovery may have thought they were dreaming about Star Trek early yesterday morning when they got an early wake-up call from William Shatner.
Recreating the famous Star Trek opening, featuring his character Captain James Kirk, Shatner roused the sleeping astronauts at 3:23 a.m. with a greeting that began, "Space, the final frontier." Yet, rather than just repeat the famed Star Trek intro, the 79-year-old Shatner made his message specifically about Discovery, which is on its final voyage. He noted that in "her 30-year mission" she has "boldly" gone and done "what no spacecraft has done before."
