Snoop Lion Announces Gardens Project, Says "No Child Should Go Hungry"

Snoop Lion wants more school-aged children in Jamaica to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables.  The hip-hop veteran is doing something to make that happen, announcing Tuesday that he's teamed up with beverage manufacturer Reed's Ginger Brew and Causes.com to get the word out about the Mind Gardens Project, a non-profit initiative to set up sustainable, organic community gardens in the island nation.

A recent trip to Jamaica proved life-changing for Snoop.  He was moved by, among other things, the Rastafarian culture and, earlier this year, he traded the name Snoop Dogg for Snoop Lion.  His personal and musical evolution is chronicled in the documentary Reincarnated.  After finding so much inspiration in Jamaica, Snoop says in a statement that he felt compelled to give back.

"When I went to Jamaica we took time to visit these communities in Kingston, and I was deeply affected by the poverty and lack of good food available to the children," Snoop says in a statement.  "No child should go hungry."

The Mind Gardens Project is already under way in Kingston, teaching local residents to grow their own food. Snoop fans can get involved by pledging to learn about local gardens in their own communities.  Those who participate online will be entered in a contest to win a year's supply of Reed's Ginger Brew.
