Yesterday in court, Robin Thicke took the witness stand and immediately admitted that he’s a liar. In the process, he threw song-writing partner Pharrell Williams under the bus.
The “Blurred Lines” singer called it “a little white lie” that he’d asked Pharrell to help him craft a tune to sound similar to Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit “Gotta Give It Up.” Gaye’s children filed a copyright lawsuit, which will be argued over the next week in court.
Yesterday, Thicke claimed the white lie was borne of resentment. The biggest hit of his entire career was penned by somebody else. Thicke became jealous and he wanted a piece of the credit. In his words, “I was living in revisionist history for my own benefit.”
His attorney believes anything Thicke said earlier about “Blurred Lines” ought to be dismissed. On the witness stand, the singer declared that every interview conducted in the summer of 2013 was under the influence. “I had a drug and alcohol problem for the year. I didn't do a sober interview. So I don't recall many things that I said.” (E! News)
