Rappers Create “Don’t Shoot” Single For Mike Brown But is this a Positive Step or Hypocritical?

Via The Reel Network

The death of 18-year-old Michael Brown has sparked up a great deal of anger and sadness in the African American community, and people have used many different outlets to express their thoughts.
Celebrities, in particular, have been speaking out on the controversy more than we could have ever expected. Tons of celebrities are speaking out on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook among other social media outlets, and plenty of rappers and singers are releasing songs that tie back to the tragedy.
As far as songs go, a couple of rappers linked up to create a song entitled Don’t Shoot. The song was rapper The Game’s idea, but he gathered a bunch of other rappers to create the song.

The rappers featured on the song were Rick Ross, Wale, Diddy, Fabolous, Curren$y, Problem, Yo Gotti, Swizz Beats, 2 Chainz, and King Pharaoh. The Game even featured R&B super group TGT (Tyrese, Ginuwine, and Tank) to sing the hook.

Though the idea of the song is thoughtful, some people cannot help but wonder if it is hypocritical seeing as how some of these rappers talk about shooting and the use of guns in their songs.

In one of 2 Chainz’ songs Riot he says: “My gat loud I back out, And click clack pow pow.” In Rick Ross’ I’m Not A Star he says: “Load up the choppers like it’s December 31, Roll up and cock it and hit them niggas where it hurts.” And in Yo Gotti’s World War III he says: “I’m bout to separate yo soul from yo body boy, I got that chopper boy, coming through yo block boy.
