An 11-room Lakeview mansion, that once belonged to Grammy Award-winning R&B singer R. Kelly, sold for $2.64 million last week.
The residence, at 1010 W. George St., was built as a church in 1885 but it was converted to a private residence in the 1980s. Kelly bought four-bedroom, 8,000-square-foot mansion for $1.107 million in 1994 and sold it for $2.25 million in 2002.
In 2008, the home was purchased out of foreclosure for $1 million and underwent some renovations.
The new additions to the house included an elevator, roof deck, $7,000 shower head and the demolition of a basketball court with a featured mural of R. Kelly and the Tasmanian Devil, to make room for a garage.
The original asking price for the mansion was slated at $3.89 million in June 2010, but the current owner and former renter was able to secure the house for 30 percent less than the 2010 listed price.
